Job Title: Warehouse Technical Operator (Secondment) Location: Port Sunlight Factory Work-Level: CB5 JOB PURPOSE Responsible for safely operating warehouse equipment whilst making decisions to successfully deliver a Quality product to the customer through completion of the production plan. Maximising cost effectiveness; completion of required maintenance and improvement activities, ensuring optimal running and equipment efficiency and owning and driving continuous improvement activities in their area, through identification of improvements and carrying out improvement activities to completion within the scope of their skill set. RESPONSIBILITIES GENERAL Maintaining excellent internal communications within own team and with other teams via completion of shift logbooks, Activity boards and thorough handovers. Maximize the use of any down time to carry out maintenance and improvement activities and coaching and training as required Ensuring cover at all times (for holidays, sickness, absenteeism and other reasons) through working effectively with colleagues and Line Manager to collectively manage holidays and cover rotas Recognise WCM, its Tools and Techniques and its primary use Health, Safety & Environment Ensure Company safety policy, rules and procedures are understood and followed at all times Actively contribute to a safety culture and safe working environment through the identification and reporting of health or safety hazards & dangerous situations with Unilever personnel, site contractors and visitors Perform and document risk assessment. In particular if no Risk Assessment exists then complete assessment and inform the leader. This would require further training and support and the involvement of COSHH. Take part in regular inspections/audits for good housekeeping and area safety and ensure agreed actions are completed. Encourages ALL to behave in a safe manner and challenges unsafe behaviour Quality Handle products in accordance with quality procedures and standards to achieve the required product quality targets at minimal waste levels. Take immediate actions to rectify quality issues and follow the ‘Quarantine Recall’ process if required. Be involved in investigations into non-conformances; ensure zero quality defects by analysing and eliminating all defects. Identify quality critical control points, ensure they are monitored and maintained. Carry out Pallet label check for quality performance. Customer Service Ensure that the area is running at the optimal speeds / throughput. Anticipate and react quickly to problems in order to avoid impact to customer service. Optimize changeovers through effective planning and execution to ensure minimum changeover and run-up times, working closely with the Line and planning team 5S - Maintain 5S workplace organisation and implement required improvements. And Ensure 5S standards are clearly defined and followed Cost - Identify improvements in order to reduce Cost, Waste and Energy. Autonomous Maintenance Understand and participate in the area AM master plan. Carry out cleaning, inspections, lubrication and constantly monitor equipment condition to anticipate, breakdowns or any unplanned stoppages, tag as required. Ensure AM standards are followed. Update and use activity boards following the AM step process. Ensure the work area is back to original conditions after maintenance activities. Support the Leader in looking to reduce frequency and time of maintenance schedules through improvements and reviewing the teams Maintenance shift activities. Carry out improvements, replacements and adjustments within proven skills and competence, seek opportunities to extend and broaden maintenance activities through task transfer. Focused improvement Ensure production losses are being recorded and classified correctly and the loss data entered accurately and the database managed effectively. Monitor area loss tree to identify loss pattern and take action to improve by understanding principles of equipment, be able to describe and analyse loss phenomenon and plan to eliminate these losses by eliminating the root cause using the appropriate FI tools. Assist the leaders in embedding a “Fix forever” mentality by aiding the use of the appropriate countermeasures, e.g. updating the AM or PM standards, Operating procedures, creating OPL’s or requesting training. Problem Solving Problem solving is essential in the identification of faults on the warehouse equipment – therefore an in-depth knowledge of the principles and parameters of all the machines is required. Problem solving is also essential in understanding why faults on all the machines have occurred and how to avoid these problems in the future. CHANGE The Warehouse Technical Operator will be involved in change, for example, when there is a new case design and therefore a trialling process. They will need to get involved in order to track successes and failures, to feed back the issues and improvements which need addressed. Change will also be evident in the pursuit of Best Practice in quality assurance. For example, when efficiencies and better ways of doing things are discovered, the Warehouse Technical Operator is expected to drive a change in process/ways of working in the team, with the team leader and operations leader through effective communication and collaboration. . Lateral Teamwork - Liaison with: Team Leader and rest of Management Team Operators – Packing Hall and within own Team and Shift Engineers and FTs Planning, Making Plant, Quality teams Safety The Project Team Timescale- The impact of the Warehouse Technical Operator’s decisions will be immediate and an immediate response will be required to address any issues as they arise.
