Job Title: Packaging Engineering Lead Location: Leeds Office & R&D Work Level: WL1D Function: Research & Development MAIN JOB PURPOSE The Packaging Engineering Lead is responsible for leading the operation and continuous improvement of the Leeds packaging facilities, including measurement lab, packaging lab & packaging pilot plant facilities. This role defines trial plans and validation processes for innovation projects, identifies future capability needs, and acts as the area leader to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all facilities and equipment. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES Area Leader for Pilot Plant & Lab (Packaging), and associated storage areas. Responsible for area safety, documentation (RA, SOPs), training, servicing & calibration. Deputy area leader for Gas House & Constant Temperature Rooms. Ensure packaging capabilities are future-fit & identify routes to improve capabilities & efficiencies, including leading new equipment design projects. Work with x-functional teams to lead the scale up of innovations into sourcing units via pilot plant validation & main plant trials. Lead digital programme to build virtual manufacturing capability. Subject matter expert in metrology, including measurement definition, methods & fixturing. Troubleshoot & write CMM programmes. Equipment owner for X-Ray – train and maintain. Manage & permit writing for contractors. EXPERIENCE Engineering background, ideally with NVQ Level 4 or equivalent experience in an engineering role. Experience with aerosol manufacturing. Experience with metrology methods (CT Scanning, X-Ray, CMM, Vision Systems) Experience in an FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) manufacturing environment is desirable. KEY SKILLS Strong ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams. Excellent problem-solving skills. Effective organisational and time management abilities. Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals. Experience in planning and executing Design of Experiments (DOE) Leading Risk Assessments & SOP creation ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This role is based in Leeds R&D Job holder is likely to be working on a number of projects simultaneously Business travel required including some overseas travel Occasional out of hours work may be required Office based with some opportunities for agile working Driving licence preferable NOTES Please apply via this portal as e-mail applications may not be processed and include your talent card if completed.
