Facility Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Location Fayetteville, North Carolina Department Legal Services Job Family Professional Work Shift Days (United States of America) Summary Paralegal provides administrative, secretarial and office management support for Legal Services. Performs a wide variety of duties and responsibilities, as well as special project assignments and administrative duties. Receives visitors, patients, physicians, department managers and other hospital personnel; ascertains their needs and directs/assists them accordingly. Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Responsible for the management of the Legal Services administrative offices Types general correspondence, reports, memoranda, forms, and surveys as requested Schedules appointments, meetings, and keeps calendars up-to-date Develops and maintains a hard copy of all legal, risk and insurance department policies and procedures Coordinates payment for license and certification requirements for legal department personnel Provides Notary Public service for the hospital, staff, physicians and patients/families Responsible for assisting with coordination of obtaining documents and information requested by governmental, regulatory and licensure entities as well as litigation counsel Maintains system for operational budget/fiscal reporting and analysis Participates in cost-reduction activities Participates in organizational/departmental based quality improvement services Coordination and management of the physician contracting process, including interfacing directly with physician candidates, leadership and employees Investigates facts and reviewing legislation, statutory and case law, regulations, legal opinions and rulings, hospital policies, and corporate and other documents to determine legal relevancy and significance Prepares drafts of legal memoranda and opinions, including litigation documents and contracts, for review by attorneys Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job: Education and Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree required Paralegal certification and completion of an approved paralegal certification course preferred Work Experience: 1 year experience in a legal setting required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Knowledge of the law, legal system and health care industry, particularly hospitals and health systems Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint Ability to handle confidential matters without violating the confidence involved Ability to work a flexible schedule, i.e., attend meetings before and/or after regular office hours Ability to research and compile/compose various data for reports Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and frequent interruptions Ability to handle public contacts in a manner that reflects credibility on the Hospital and Legal Services Department Integrity and a sense of responsibility in fulfilling duties Critical thinking skills to prioritize daily workload/volumes Clerical expertise to proofread typewritten materials, to index and file correspondence, records and reports, and to organize daily work Expressive ability is required to compose minutes/letters using proper rules of grammar, spelling and punctuation Physical Requirements: Long periods of sitting with minimal standing Reaching and handling to operate office machines Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing Auditory and visual acuity to accurately perform job functions Required Licenses and Certifications Cape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity For exceptional healthcare come to Cape Fear Valley Health where caring employees are committed to integrity, patient-centeredness and excellence throughout the entire healthcare process.
