Function: Project Mirai / Tax Operations Work Level: 2A/2B Reports to: Mirai Global Tax Process Lead Scope: Direct Tax SME for Project Mirai Location: Agnostic ABOUT PROJECT MIRAI Mirai represents a strategic transformation initiative aimed at harmonizing, simplifying, and modernizing Unilever’s core business operations through the implementation of a single ERP system, standardized business processes, and the integration of Agentic AI. This transformation will enable autonomous operations and reduce operational complexity. The core business processes most impacted by Mirai span Finance, Customer Operations, Manufacturing, and Procurement and will be harmonized by adopting a “fit to standard” approach; this mandates the use of best practice ‘out of the box’ process models embedded within the single ERP system. This standardization aims to eliminate local variations, reduces complexity, and enables consistent, scalable operations across markets and functions. WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE The Mirai Direct Tax SME is responsible for working with the Tax Business Integrator partner to design, align, and driving the end-to-end Direct related processes within Tax Operations as part of Mirai Programme. Along with the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead, this role ensures that the future-state process design adopts the Mirai principles (simplification, standardization, harmonization), reflects business needs, complies with global and local regulatory requirements, and leverages ERP capabilities efficiently. In addition to the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead, the Direct Tax SME partners will also partner with the other Mirai Process SMEs, Product Domains, implementation partners, and key business stakeholders to ensure successful solution delivery and process adoption. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The Mirai Project will have the overall design authority over relevant end-to-end processes and ensure all delivery locations converge on to a single set of process operating standards. The role of the Mirai Direct Tax SME is to support the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead on the wider simplification and standardization initiative, including but not limited to: 1. Diagnosis Reviewing and challenging the outcomes of the relevant end to end future state processes design to support the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead in developing: • A simpler and more standardised operating model and; • Enhanced governance / risk management. • A fit for future tax control framework • A list of potential opportunities for the deployment of GenAI alongside Mirai Key accountabilities include: • Working closely with process operators to understand the current and emerging risks and a • Collate, on an ongoing basis, existing Direct tax process problem statements that can be fed into the Mirai programme. • Understanding of strategic priorities, and translation into process improvement or transformation opportunities 2. Process Design & Standardization • Supporting the design of a global harmonized process for Direct Tax including understanding the nuances within Unilever including any localized step outs from the global processes. • Identifying and driving standardization and simplification opportunities across segments and markets (e.g. tax reporting). Challenging, where necessary, any business requests for global process step outs. • Reviewing and approving process designs on behalf of the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead including any step outs required for legal and fiscal purposes. • Supporting the implementation of the future-state Direct tax processes. • Supporting the ongoing maintenance of process documentation of the existing processes and variations/deviations, including the RACI and key controls • Support identification of tax application rationalization opportunities. • Draft relevant ERP business requirements for approval by the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead • Contribute to the identification of AI solutions and design of the AI use cases for the tax process areas. • Drafting or reviewing strategic and functional KDDs (Key Design Decisions) for finance functional governance and DA (Design Authority) approval • Supporting the preparation of technical KDDs, including technical options relevant to tax processes. • Working with the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead and Mirai MDM (Master Data Management) team to support the development of the MDM processes for the elements of Finance, Customer, Vendor and Materials that are either owned or impact Unilever Tax • Understand inherent and emerging process risks and ensures that these are identified, mitigated, controlled and reported appropriately 3. Requirements Gathering & Fit-Gap Analysis • Support assessments between global templated vs local requirements and maximize out of the box adoption. Challenging, where necessary, any requests for Legal and Fiscal variations to maximize adherence to the global template. • Working with the stakeholder to translate business needs into system requirements and process changes, whilst securing minimal customizations. • Supporting assessments against business requirements for any non-SAP tax applications implemented / reimplemented alongside Project Mirai. 4. Solution Delivery Support • Reviewing solution design documentation to ensure alignment with the gathered business requirements. • Supporting the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead with the management of data cleansing activities including liaising with other process SMEs and GPOs. • Supporting the preparation of User Acceptance Testing (“UAT”) scenarios for review by the Mirai Global Tax Process Lead • Reviewing the results of UAT tests and support defect resolution • Reviewing cutover and deployment plan • Support data conversion, cutover, go-live activities and hypercare related to the process domain 5. Controls & Compliance • Identifying control points in the Mirai Global Direct processes and work with the Risk & Controls teams to determine whether controls can be automated. • Partnering with Risks & Control teams to embed risk mitigation into the Mirai Global process design 6. Performance • Draft standards for Direct Tax process performance by communicating process-based objectives and targets. • Drafts and agrees key performance indicators (KPIs) that will measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the process. Accountabilities include: a. Understands overall cost of the process, identifies key drivers, measures and sets targets b. Monitors the performance of the process, works to understand process issue root causes, identifies improvement opportunities, and costs/benefits of implementing • Supports the Finance GPO with identification of projects or initiatives to improve processes, monitors progress and ensures on time delivery 7. Stakeholder Management • Serve as the single point of contact for the Direct tax process area, bridging business and technical stakeholders • Facilitate decision-making and issue resolution within the process domain • Communicate effectively with regional and functional teams, outsource partners and process owners and other SMEs to gain alignment and buy-in 8. Change Management & Training • Providing input to training materials that will be deployed • Supporting change impact analysis and contributes to communication planning • Acting as a change champion for the new ways of working in the Tax function WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED Experiences & Qualifications Essential • ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent professional qualification • Minimum of [5] years of experience in finance, tax or process roles • Some experience of tax and tax process is a must • Proven track of developing and executing standard processes across an organization • Working knowledge of Tax related processes Preferred • Strategy and business case development • Knowledge of Tax technology and the challenges that implementation brings • Working knowledge of S/4HANA • Experience of working in one of Unilever’s Hubs on tax processes Skills • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities • Ability to lead and inspire a team in a dynamic environment Leadership You are now a Leader of Change.
