Title: Junior Wind Engineering Modelling Analyst Title: Junior Wind Engineering Modelling Analyst Salary range: £37,000 to £50,000 per annum depending on experience Location: Glasgow, Bristol or Leatherhead Working Pattern: We operate a flexible hybrid working pattern at Frazer-Nash, with time split between the office and working from home. Our renewable energy division is a community of engineers who are committed to contributing to the growth of the wind industry worldwide. Whilst our services cuts across all sectors (i.e. onshore, fixed offshore and floating wind), we have created a globally leading position (specifically in floating wind) in delivery of coupled WTG-substructure assessment and analysis at both system (i.e. loads and performance on a single system) and farm level (i.e. expected yield across multiple systems). We deliver across the project lifecycle, providing cutting edge research on wind farm and technology challenges at the early stages of development through to discrete commercial project support to wind turbine OEMs, foundation designers and developers at more detailed stages of the project. Notably our partnership with wind turbine and foundation manufacturers has enabled the deployment of over 10GW of wind worldwide. We pride ourselves on having a delivery approach that is fully centred on understanding our client’s problems and providing bespoke solutions for some of the key issues facing the offshore wind industry today. The primary focus of the role will be to provide flexible support across our core services in wind farm analysis and wind turbine technology assessment. Which, depending on the requirement means you will be providing technical delivery in one (or both) of the following: Wind turbine technology assessment: Working closely with wind turbine OEMs and floating foundation designers to assess the latest commercial wind turbine platforms, providing structural loads and controller tuning analysis. Wind farm yield assessments: Providing state of the art wind farm layout optimisations, energy yield analysis or wind farm wake analysis to developers and trusted bodies in the offshore fixed and floating wind industries. This role provides a unique opportunity to combine project management and engineering skills across the core areas of technical assessment for offshore wind projects. The candidate will be flexible in both supporting and leading services to clients, working with colleagues from across the company to deliver success. Working in a consultancy provides you the opportunity to combine, technical, commercial, project and people skills. Good interpersonal skills are important as is the ability to make structured decisions, solve problems, and show initiative and ownership. Reporting to your Group Leader you will be accountable for your own work but will be provided with support from more experienced engineers when required for project delivery and to guide service development and strategy. Skills and Attributes This role is primarily aimed at candidates in the early stages of their career seeking to work in a diverse team, that offers the opportunity to deliver high quality technical analysis within the renewable energy sector. Essential You’re completing or have recently completed your master’s or doctorate degree in Mathematics, Physics or Engineering, with an enthusiasm or interest in the following: Working at the forefront of the offshore wind industry delivering, assessing and developing novel technologies for the next generation of wind farms. An understanding of wind turbine and wind farm technology and what influences energy yield, power performance and loads. Keenness to develop core skills in programming languages and packages such as Python, C#, and MATLAB. A strong team player but with the ability to work under minimal supervision. Desirable Strong familiarity in programming languages and packages such as Python / MATLAB with prior experience of deploying these tools to deliver real-world analysis. An aptitude for communicating methods and results to specialists and non-specialists through writing high quality reports and presenting technical papers at conferences. Prior experience in delivering technical analysis in the offshore wind sector. Due to the nature of the work that Frazer-Nash Consultancy undertake, candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment screening and must be able to satisfy clearance criteria for UK National Security Vetting.
