Facility Cape Fear Valley Medical Center Location Fayetteville, North Carolina Department Pharmacy Job Family Professional Work Shift Nights (United States of America) Summary This is a 7 on 7 off night shift. Responsible for the development, implementation and documentation of the antimicrobial stewardship program for Cape Fear Valley Health System. Ensure clinical and microbiological effectiveness of antimicrobials; decrease the emergence of resistance; education of prescribers (including pharmacists, nurses, and ancillary healthcare providers) in therapeutically efficacious therapy; decrease adverse reactions and predisposition to secondary infections; promote conversion of intravenous therapy to oral antibiotics; consolidate antimicrobial formulary. Major Job Functions The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time: Work with ID physicians to establish a process for the approval of restricted antibiotics Develop and oversee, along with the Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator, the competency of pharmacists in antimicrobial selection, dosing and monitoring of antimicrobials Ensure the systems’ use of best practice with regards to pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic utilization/dosing of antimicrobials Serve as a resource to Microbiology, including participation in the antimicrobial testing panel selection process Promote critical pathways that encourage the selection of antimicrobials and antimicrobial combinations that delay or prevent the emergence of resistance Work with infection control to provide education on appropriate subjects and attend infection control meetings Review new agents and in coordination with the Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator and ID physicians develop guidelines for use Develop programs, in conjunction with the Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator and ID physicians that target high-cost and/or specialized antimicrobials Document improvement in patient well-being and consumer satisfaction by shortening length of stay, preventing adverse drug reactions and secondary infections and ensuring positive patient outcomes Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job: Education and Formal Training: Doctor of Pharmacy Degree required Current, valid licensure with the North Carolina State Board of Pharmacy required Work Experience: 3 years clinical practice experience after obtaining a Doctor of Pharmacy degree or completion of ASHP residency required Previous Infectious Disease experience preferred Previous experience in data collection and analysis preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Must be able to speak, read and follow instructions in English Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Must have excellent presentation skills Good computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint Physical Requirements: Ability to see and read physician orders, medication labels, etc. Manual dexterity to use computer and typewriter Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and patients #CFVH-2025 Required Licenses and Certifications Pharmacist - NC Board Of Pharmacy Cape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity For exceptional healthcare come to Cape Fear Valley Health where caring employees are committed to integrity, patient-centeredness and excellence throughout the entire healthcare process.
