Job Overview

The Housekeeping Porter is responsible for guests feeling welcomed with a clean and inviting property and a pristine public space. 


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain common areas of the hotel including; vacuuming, dusting, sweeping and mopping, public elevators and landings, service elevators and landings, public restrooms, stairwells, pool and fitness center, and other areas as assigned.  
  • Clean and maintain associate locker rooms including; sweeping and mopping floors, sanitizing, vacuuming, and dusting.
  • Assist with deep cleaning projects and turndown duties.
  • Remove trash from public areas (inside and outside). 
  • Remove litter from parking lot and surrounding areas within the property.
  • Work as part of a team and communicate with other departments to ensure excellent quality and service.
  • Stock, organize, and maintain linen closets and supply rooms.
  • Assist other Housekeeping associates when necessary.
  • Respond to guest requests and act to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Engage with guests and fellow associates using D.A.R.E. to Connect behaviors.
  • Handle and store chemicals according to hotel regulations and local legislative requirements. 
  • Immediately report any health and safety incident, security breaches, or suspicious behavior to the supervisor.
  • May assist with other duties as assigned.

Specific job knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
  • Ability to perceive and detect uncleanliness, soiled surfaces, and stains.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including, nights, weekends and/or holidays
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to engage with guests and answer questions.
  • Communication skills, written and verbal, in the primary languages used in the workplace.
  • Ability to navigate and use necessary software and applications.

Physical demands:

  • Most work tasks are performed indoors. Temperature is moderate and controlled by hotel environmental systems; however, must be able to work in extreme temperatures possibly for one hour or more.
  • Must be able to exert well-paced mobility for up to 8 hours in length.
  • Must be able to lift and transport up to 70 pounds on a regular and consistent basis, and maneuver equipment weighing up to 250 pounds on a regular and continuing basis.
  • Ability to position self to clean facilities and use required equipment; requires grasping, reaching, performing repetitive motions, and manual dexterity.
Requirements
  • A high school or equivalent education is preferred. Prior cleaning or hospitality experience is preferred.
  • Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings are required.
  • Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with Crowne Plaza Lansing rules and regulations for the safe and effective operations of the Hotel’s facilities. Associates who violate Hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including, separation from employment.
