Job Description: Contract End Date: December 31, 2025 POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Youth and Family Ministries Coordinator is a pastoral leadership position responsible for holistic children, youth and family ministries at Boundless Vancouver. This mission partner assesses program needs, designs programs, and ensures strong integration of CFS and congregational ministries. The position also involves recruiting and overseeing volunteers connected to children, youth and family ministries in collaboration with the Community Engagement/Volunteer Coordinator. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES: Plans, prepares and leads family, youth and children's events/programs that integrate community ministries and the church. This includes, but is not limited to, Kids’ Corner, Kids’ (Sunday School) Time, Family Fun Nights, Messy Church, Women in Touch, BV Day Camps. Supports healthy families through the provision of programs, resources and connections/referrals to local programs and other agencies. Actively recruits, trains and leads volunteers who are interested and committed to being part of Kids’ Corner, Kids’ (Sunday School) Time, Family Fun Nights, Messy Church, Women in Touch, and other children/youth/family ministries. Invites families to BV gatherings and other programs in response to their individual/family needs. Ensures the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example. Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with children, youth, parents, and neighbours, endeavoring to welcome them into the Body of Christ and link them to the church family and church programs where possible. Assists/supports the Corps Officer in providing pastoral care to children, youth, families. A willingness to make home/hospital pastoral visits is expected. Develops and maintains strong spiritual relationships with families, encouraging home lives centered in biblical values and the life-changing truths of the Gospel. Knows and acts in accordance with security procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of neighbours (children, youth, parents). Ensures that all Territorial Abuse Policy requirements and child protection protocols are consistently observed in the running of children/youth/family ministries. Develops program plans for ministries and maintains written records/logs and statisticalinformation. Regularly reviews/evaluates programs to ensure mission impact and adjusts appropriately. In consultation with the Operations Manager reviews/monitors budgets to ensure program expenses are within financial provisions. Supports the development of an operating budget for the MU and monitors children/youth/family program revenues and expenses regularly to ensure compliance. Supports ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects community/neighbour/congregant needs, as directed by supervisor. Supports communication and donor-relations strategies established by the Management Team. Serves actively as a member of the pastoral team and Pastoral Care Council for Boundless Vancouver. Participates in regular staff training and development. May support the Christmas Toy Shop team in day-to-day operations, if required. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT Governance Boards and Councils: Management Team, Pastoral Team/Pastoral Care Council, Community Council Internal: Salvation Army Divisional Youth Pastor’s network Divisional Headquarters - Area Commander, DHQ Youth Department, Regional Youth Coordinator Territorial Headquarters – Territorial Youth Department, Territorial Abuse Advisor External: Vancouver Youth Pastors, Child Protection Agencies (as needed) MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Reports directly to Corps Officer Supervises volunteers serving with children/youth/family programs FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: Monitors spending for the programs overseen Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of resources. May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash. Minimal material responsibility. WORKING CONDITIONS: Serves in an office environment within a busy CFS ministry. The location of work may create a possibility of experiencing the following disagreeable conditions: angry/abusive people and verbal abuse, minor risk of harm, injury, illness due to physical attacks from others and/or exposure to infectious diseases. Serves outside of office on occasion (i.e. Camp, community) May occasionally be called upon to intervene if a guest/client becomes abusive or aggressive to decide on the course of action. The job includes periods planning for program delivery, which may involve computer research. The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of a degree in Biblical Studies, Youth Ministry, or equivalent work experience with children/youth. An alternative combination of education and experience may be considered. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements A minimum of 1-2 years of related experience. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others. Ability to train, supervisor and support volunteers. Creativity and innovation. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Strong administrative, organization, written, digital and verbal communication skills. Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record check clearance. Valid BC Driver’s License and clean driver’s abstract. Love for children and youth. Proven ability to make meaningful connections with children and youth and engage well with parents/caregivers. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $41,706.30 to $52,132.88 with a maximum of $62,559.46. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
