Job Description Depop is seeking its first Senior Manager, Regulatory Compliance to establish and lead a centralised and streamlined approach to regulatory compliance across the business. This is a pivotal role that will ensure Depop meets its evolving regulatory obligations efficiently and effectively, while enabling innovation and supporting the company’s mission to make fashion circular. Reporting to the Director of Trust and Safety, this role will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining Depop’s regulatory compliance strategy. The successful candidate will collaborate with a range of internal stakeholders, including Product, Policy, Engineering, Customer Experience, Legal, Communications and others, as well as external partners such as Cinder and Vistalworks, to ensure Depop’s compliance ecosystem operates effectively and supports a safe and trusted marketplace. This role will have one direct report - a Legal and Compliance Operations Specialist, that will support the execution of the strategy. Given the cyclical nature of regulatory compliance activities, this role requires a highly organised and proactive individual, capable of maintaining independent oversight of multiple workstreams that must be delivered, evaluated and renewed annually. Core Focus Areas - Strategic Ownership & Subject Matter Expertise Lead Depop’s overall regulatory compliance strategy, acting as the accountable owner for compliance across the business. Provide expert interpretation of regulatory requirements and lead on risk-based decision-making for implementation and response. Serve as the primary liaison with cross-functional leadership to ensure regulatory obligations are embedded within product development and operational roadmaps. Provide subject matter expertise on relevant regulations, standards and best practices within the Trust and Safety domain. Oversee continuous monitoring and evaluation of compliance performance, identifying gaps, recommending remediations and ensuring follow-through on corrective actions. Deliver periodic compliance status reports, risk assessments and updates to the Executive Team and Depop/Etsy Legal. Ensure regulatory detection and enforcement mechanisms are robust, effective and aligned with broader Trust and Safety frameworks. Partner with external vendors (e.g. Cinder, Vistalworks) to ensure the effectiveness of Depop’s content moderation ecosystem and maintain optimal operational performance. Key Responsibilities Act as the accountable owner for regulatory compliance across Depop, ensuring a coordinated and consistent approach. Lead regulatory readiness assessments, documentation, and response strategies across applicable frameworks and jurisdictions. Leadership, management and coaching of direct line report/s - ensuring delivery of high standards through providing support and holding accountable. Collaborate with internal teams to integrate compliance requirements into product features, policies and customer operations. Develop and maintain centralised compliance frameworks, controls, and playbooks that enable ongoing compliance management. Support regulatory change management, tracking emerging regulations and advising on their impact to Depop’s operations. Facilitate cross-functional alignment and communication on compliance priorities, ensuring timely delivery of commitments. Represent Depop in compliance-related discussions with Etsy Legal and other relevant partners. Drive process improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness of compliance operations. Essential Significant experience in regulatory compliance, ideally within Trust and Safety, online marketplaces, e-commerce or technology sectors. Demonstrable experience having direct line management experience. Proven ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical business requirements. Demonstrated experience leading compliance programmes or frameworks end-to-end. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience influencing cross-functional teams. Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage cyclical workstreams and multiple priorities independently. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a risk-based and solutions-oriented mindset combined with bias for action and high proactivity, reliability and accountability High attention to detail, diligence and follow-through. Desirable Experience working with external vendors or partners on compliance or moderation systems. Familiarity with EU Digital Services Act (DSA), UK Online Safety Act or similar digital regulatory frameworks. Previous experience in a fast-paced, high-growth or platform-based organisation.
