Role Title: Senior Engineer – C&I Locations: Hybrid working with one of the following locations as your primary site: Derby, Manchester or Warrington We anticipate paying a salary between £51,600-£67,725 DOE We are Rolls-Royce SMR and we're doing something that's never been done before. We're revolutionising an industry. That's a once-in-a-career opportunity for those excited by such a challenge. This is more than just a job; this is a legacy. We are now recruiting for a Senior Engineer - C&I to be involved in delivering an industry leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of nuclear power station. What we're looking for: As a Senior C&I Engineer you will provide technical expertise across the lifecycle of hardwired protection and accident management systems for the SMR nuclear power plant ‘reactor island'. This covers the delivery of the complete design of the systems, spanning requirements gathering, development of system architecture, sub-system design and equipment specification, and design / selection to realise the final verified design of the systems in support of the overall design of the power station. You will do this by working closely with the engineering teams from across the reactor island and applying a structured systems engineering approach to design. The key responsibilities will include: Working with Plant Process Engineers and other C&I Engineers to gather and develop system requirements. Translate these requirements into design specifications for the hardwired protection and accident management systems. Assess and substantiate that the design specification meets the requirements. Ensure that the design is compliant against international standards in particular, IEC61508 & IEC61503. Liaise with other disciplines to understand functional performance capabilities of components and systems to facilitate effective system design. Support to planning and implementation of policies and procedures related to the life cycle of the systems. Ensure that optimum solutions are provided for the RR SMR Nuclear Power Plant by supporting the procurement, operations, and maintenance aspects of the equipment. Contribute to the production of safety cases and provide support in liaising with regulators and independent nuclear safety assessors. Key selection criteria for this role are: Knowledge and experience in the systematic design lifecycle of C&I systems including specification, design, assessment, verification, testing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of safety or process critical C&I systems. This together with a good understanding of the principles of designing systems to be functionally resilient to faults (such as redundancy and diversity) would be beneficial. Knowledge and experience of relevant industry standards for systems important to safety (e.g. IEC 61508, IEC 61503). Knowledge and experience of applying systems engineering methodologies including Model Based Systems Engineering to C&I systems. Experience in taking information, understanding, and presenting it in an appropriate and compelling format, which includes formal communications to the appropriate stakeholders. The ability to provide technical oversight of the work carried out by supply chain partners i.e., discharging the intelligent customer role. Typically you will have a degree level qualification in one or more of the engineering disciplines of electrical, electronics, instrumentation, control systems. Applicants without a degree who can nevertheless demonstrate suitable experience may also be considered.
