Job Description Renishaw’s Industrial Automation Products Division (IAPD) is looking to create a dedicated Electronics function within the team and require a Senior Electronics Engineer to join the team located at one of our sites in Exeter. An in-depth knowledge of electronics is an essential requirement and a background of successfully designed products and knowledge of current electronic devices and techniques is essential. There will be opportunities to be involved in research and development projects which will put the successful candidate at the forefront of new product design Responsibilities Development of new electronics hardware, development including schematic capture and PCB design, particularly relating to analogue, digital communication, power, control and signal processing Assist the development and support of electronics firmware Capturing, analysing and documenting critical technical design requirements, producing test documents and developing prototypes for test Working with project managers and product managers to define agreed product specifications and deliver designs to meet those specifications Work with the team to optimise the interaction between electronic, mechanical and software components in all designs Work on multiple projects simultaneously and allocate time appropriately, in collaboration with the project manager, to meet deadlines for delivery Take ownership of the delivery of electronic designs that meet targets for product performance, quality, cost and timescale and which are suitable for transfer to production, considering design for assembly and test Understand and comply with the company’s new product introduction process, working with cross-functional teams to optimise the release of new designs to production Keep abreast of current technology and develop innovative processes and design solutions which can be patented by the company Key requirements Degree/HND in electronics engineering coupled with relevant work experience. Demonstrable expertise in analogue and digital electronics design, including designing for electromagnetic compatibility. Use of modelling Tools such as LT SPICE. Expertise in and experience with ECAD system tools, preferably with Zuken tools Practical understanding of microprocessors, microcontrollers, and FPGAs. An aptitude for problem solving Desirable requirements Circuit design in Zuken Knowledge of C, Python, assembly language or other embedded software languages FPGA implementation Knowledge of industrial communications protocols such as EtherCAT Person specification The successful applicant will have an enquiring mind and be open to discussing new developments, provide support to other staff and be enthusiastic and knowledgeable in developing new products for this exciting area. Product reliability and quality is integral to this position, we require an engineer with a high attention to detail who can thoroughly work through solutions to create a robust product.
