THE BVI AIRPORTS AUTHORITY JOB SPECIFICATION & DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for patrolling designated areas at the Airport; carries out assigned duties at various stations i.e., Central Security Check Point, Access Gate, Hold Baggage Screen area etc. attends Aviation Security Training when required and performs security duties in a professional manner. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out at least three (3) patrols during the tour of duty or as instructed by the Security Supervisor. 2. X-rays passengers using all facilities of the machine where necessary. 3. Thoroughly search, to sufficient depth, randomly selected baggage to ensure that it does not contain any prohibited item. 4. Performs hand search on any item or luggage that the X-ray Operator cannot identify, or which does not make the percentage of 20% random selection of baggage for the flight. 5. Ensures that all members of airport/airline staff and passengers are fully screened (100%) before giving them access into the airside of the airport. 6. Completes all security incident forms promptly on any related incident/s. 7. Ensures that all personnel display a valid I/D card chest high when working airside. 8. Identifies and reports all security breaches to the Supervisor promptly. 9. Consistently practices, good customer service, without jeopardizing the security operations. 10. Controls access to the apron and all other restricted and control areas of the airport. 11. Informs the Supervisor of any suspicious item/s, activity or unattended luggage that cannot be reconciled with its owner. 12. Conducts security sweep of the Departure Lounge at the start of daily operations; before the acceptance of any passengers; any time the Departure Lounge area has been left unattended by Security Staff; and, after the departure of each flight. 13. Informs the Supervisor of any person with suspicious behavior. 14. Reports for duty in a timely manner and ensures that any allocated breaks given by the Supervisor are taken promptly to avoid compromising the integrity of the Security Operations. 15. Acts in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the Supervisor. 16. Performs all other duties as assigned by Senior Management/Shift Manager/Supervisor. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma Security Training – Level II Qualifications & Work Experience Successful completion of Level I Airport Security Course at a recognized institution. Minimum of forty (40) hours training in Airport Security Operations. Working knowledge of all Security equipment. Working knowledge of the National Aviation Security Programme (NASP) Valid Medical Certificate Valid BVI Driver’s License. REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES AND SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES: Sound planning and organizational skills Good human relations skills. Professional telephone etiquette Good oral and written communication skills Ability to multi-task and work under pressure. Ability to resolve service-related problems Ability to successfully complete relevant levels of Security training. Sound customer service skills Proficiency with Computer Operating Systems (Microsoft office) Special Conditions Associated with the Job: Exposed to hot and humid field environment. Exposure to dangerous/high risk atmosphere. Exposed to loud airport noise. Shift work. Frequent visits to airports facilities i.e., SOL Aviation Depot.
