About the Project The Access to Justice Education Initiative is a national project funded by the Canadian Bar Association Law for the Future Fund. It responds to longstanding calls from the legal profession and access to justice advocates to enhance teaching in that area and better prepare law students and legal professionals to meet the needs of underserved communities. Despite growing awareness of access to justice challenges in Canada, legal education remains uneven in its treatment of this issue. This initiative aims to address this disparity. Through research, collaboration, and the development of open-access educational materials, the project will identify core competencies for people-centred access to justice lawyering, support their integration into curricula across the country, and develop an independent course to fill the gaps. The ultimate goal is to develop a certification that would be awarded to students upon completion of specific milestones in access to justice within their program. The project is led by a team of legal scholars across the country. Position Summary The project team is seeking a Legal Educator to support the planning, development, and administration of the Access to Justice Education Initiative. Working closely with the project leads, the Legal Educator will: Conduct research on access to justice competencies and educational pathways in Canadian law schools. Liaise with stakeholders and collaborators across institutions. Identify existing resources on access to justice education and teaching. Identify curricular gaps and develop new instructional content. Coordinate peer review and dissemination of these educational materials. Contribute to the evaluation of program outcomes. Qualifications Required: Training and/or demonstrated expertise in access to justice, legal education, or related fields. Strong research, writing, and project coordination skills. Professional proficiency in English (spoken and written). Assets: Studies in law, education, or a related discipline. Experience in curriculum development or legal instruction.
