As a member of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, the Registered Practical Nurse ensures quality and appropriateness of care for patients of all age groups within the scope of the job description and the Standards of Practice for Registered Practical Nurses of Ontario and in collaboration with the Registered Nurse. He/she demonstrates an ability to incorporate knowledge of patient’s age, growth and developmental level into the provision of care for the less complex patients including health teaching. 1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse 2. 2 years experience within the past three years in an Urgent Care, Emergency or Critical Care setting 3. Proven ability to work in a high volume high turnover environment 4. Current certificates or current community college studies in asepsis, wound care, airway management, complex wound care, physical assessment, urinary catheterization, administering enteral feeds, medication administration, transcribing physician orders and ECG application 5. Documented completion of a recognized IV administration and IV Management, Venipuncture and Blood and Blood Products Administration course 6. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation BCLS certification or equivalent 7. ACLS, PALS preferred 8. Demonstrated knowledge of community resources, regional programs and the Patient Priority System 9. Demonstrated expertise in physical assessment, 12 lead ECG monitoring, health teaching and clinical decision making 10. Demonstrated current knowledge of cardiac and respiratory arrest procedures 11. Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, both written and verbal, the ability to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and community resources 12. Demonstrated excellent organizational and the ability to work independently 13. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development, maintenance of critical care skills relevant to the scope of the job description and participation in ongoing continuing education
