The Commercial Waste & Recycling Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of side-load and/or rear-load collection vehicles to collect, transport, and dispose of solid waste and recyclables along designated routes. This role ensures compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements while providing excellent customer service. This is position is 3 days a week with the potential to become fulltime Key Responsibilities Operate a commercial waste/recycling collection vehicle, including side-load and rear-load trucks, ancillary equipment, and hydraulic systems. Load solid waste and recyclables into the vehicle and operate equipment to compact materials. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections, completing required reports and documentation daily. Communicate vehicle issues immediately to supervisors and mechanics. Maintain route quality standards as established by management. Follow all safety procedures, equipment checks, and company policies. Keep vehicle clean, both inside and out. Identify, tag, and remove prohibited waste items. Manage assigned Helper(s), when applicable. Wear required PPE and company uniform at all times. Report accidents or incidents promptly to supervisors. Maintain accurate service records and collaborate with supervisors to improve route efficiency. Attend required safety and branch meetings. Perform additional duties as assigned by management. Requirements High school diploma or GED (preferred). Valid Class 3 Commercial Driver’s License. Minimum of 1 year of commercial driving experience. Ability to meet safety-sensitive function standards. Proven ability to safely operate trucks and hydraulic equipment. Knowledge, Skills & Competencies Strong knowledge of truck components and basic maintenance needs. Skilled in maneuvering large vehicles in tight spaces, including backing distances of 120+ feet. Ability to identify unacceptable or hazardous waste materials. Strong communication skills with both internal teams and customers. Ability to read and interpret maps, documents, and written instructions. Physical ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs repetitively. Flexibility to adapt to changes and commitment to continuous improvement. Strong adherence to safety policies and procedures. Physical & Mental Demands Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, and balancing. Strong vision and focus abilities for operating in high-traffic areas. Regularly lift/move up to 10 lbs, frequently up to 25 lbs, and occasionally up to 100 lbs. Sitting for extended periods (up to 75%) while driving. Ability to work in loud and physically demanding environments. Working Conditions Outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, storms). Exposure to loud noise, vibration, moving equipment, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles. Continuous operation in traffic and away from branch location. Work environment is consistently loud and physically demanding. We thank you for your interest.
