Job Details Level: Experienced Job Location: DURANGO, CO 81301 Position Type: Regular Salary Range: $25.00 - $30.00 Hourly Division/Department: Mechanical Department/Car Shop Job Title: Railcar Mechanic II Reports To: Car Shop Foreman Type of Position: Hourly/Non-Exempt Employee Classification: Full Time/ Regular (Benefits-Eligible) Pay Range: $25-30/hr. DOE Location: Durango, CO Job Summary: The Railcar Mechanic II position is responsible for inspecting and repairing rolling stock for the railroad, specifically wheels, trucks, couplers, draft gears, brakes, brake rigging, and other related equipment. The Carman II will serve as a lead on shift and should demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of railcar components and be able to effectively identify and remedy issues as they arise. This position will be expected to work with little to no supervision and will help train new employees and maintain the scope and schedule of work as outlined by the Car Shop Foreman. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Identify issues with rail cars that require repair and handle the issue expediently. Perform daily and regularly scheduled maintenance/repairs on rail cars. Retain accurate records for completed work in order to ensure adherence to maintenance schedules. Operate equipment in and around the Car Shop including heavy equipment and other railroad inventory. Other duties as assigned. Work independently with little to no supervision and to provide guidance to other staff and make decisions confidently and in a expedient and well-communicated manner. Education, Skill & Work Experience: 3 years minimum in performing inspections on railcars with an aptitude for identifying mechanical or functional issues and quickly diagnosing, repairing or replacing. 3 years previous working knowledge and experience with K-valves, draft gears, brakes, couplers, wheels and other railcar components. Ability to operate shop tools and proven mechanical skills required. Prior experience leading a team or project management experience highly preferred. Experience operating forklifts, carry deck, tractor and other equipment required. Must possess a valid Driver's License Must pass a preemployment drug test and Physical Capabilities Exam Work Environment: Working in and around railyard and within an industrial shop environment with heavy equipment and exposure to loud noises. Ability to crawl under coaches, working in confined spaces and atop ladders/scaffolding. Must be able to bend, crawl, crouch, walk, stand and lift up to 75 pounds reguarly. Varied schedule sometimes requiring full-time hours with overtime or weekend work, as needed. Willing to work outdoors in inclement weather and to perform physically demanding work. Qualifications
