Job Summary Responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. Position: Physician Assistant II Department: Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiac Surgery Schedule: Full Time Shift: Day Pay Range: $120,390/yr.-$170,456/yr. JOB RESPONSIBILTIES/DUTIES: • Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to cardiac surgery patient in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting. • Performs complete histories and physical examinations • Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. • Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostics, laboratory, and physical examination findings • Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries. • Performs bedside procedures as appropriate to the patient population. • Complies with all policies and standards • Additional clinical, administrative, and/or leadership roles above a PA I as defined by the department/division including but not limited to onboarding, mentoring, and training new physician assistant hires • Participates in quality improvement projects as delegated by the PA leadership team • Participates in meetings/committees at the division and hospital level as delegated by the PA leadership team • Participates in professional development activities appropriate for their level of training • Precepts PA students and provides appropriate education for PA and medical students on service • Performs endoscopic vein harvesting and assisting in surgical operations when applicable Qualifications JOB REQUIREMENTS Master’s degree in Physician Assistant (PA-C) studies from physician assistant education program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). 2 years of experience as a physician assistant in cardiac surgery, critical care, or working with a critically ill patient population.
