Paramedic / Emergency Department / 12 hours per week The Emergency Department paramedic provides personal care and professional excellence by working collaboratively and cooperatively with nurses and physicians in caring for patients in the Emergency Department. MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Demonstrates clinical competency in caring for patients as identified in units scope of care. Demonstrates competency in the care of the patient in the following stages of the life cycle: infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics. Brings patients to the treatment area after evaluation by the triage nurse and at the direction of the triage nurse. Obtains vital signs, gathers patient data and records on patient chart. Initiate IV lines, and obtain lab specimens as needed. Sets up suture trays and other sterile fields. Applies dressings. Assists with/applies orthopedic devices including but not limited to ace wraps, crutches, knee immobilizers, finger splints and wrist splints. Assists patient with emergent needs. Provides psychosocial support for patients and their families/significant others as needed. Includes a weekend and a Holiday rotation EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduate of an approved Paramedic Training Program. Certification as an EMT-P preferred. Demonstrated technical and advanced life support skills. Certification in ACLS and PALS required. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Minimum of 2 years field experience as a paramedic preferred.
