Operations Controller – Mendip Rail Limited Location: Shepton Mallet Are you ready to take control of one of the most dynamic rail freight operations in the UK? Mendip Rail Limited is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Operations Controller to join our team and help deliver first-class service to our customers. Key Responsibilities Be the first point of contact for MRL customers, ensuring service level expectations are consistently met. Make business-critical decisions to ensure the effective day-to-day running of the train plan—from weekly planning to resolving live daily issues. Maintain control of the MRL wagon fleet, including organising defective wagon recoveries and offloads to ensure fleet availability meets customer demand. Create and deliver the weekly train plan, working closely with our Supply Chain Partners. Accurately log and report on daily train movements and concerns. Input correct data to generate invoices and performance reports. Record and prepare transactional data for use by the Admin and Management Team. Prepare daily trip sheets for each quarry to ensure loading requirements are met. Advise depots of the weekly train plan, communicating any issues and arranging alternatives swiftly. Liaise with parent companies and supply chain staff to ensure optimal service delivery and value creation. Provide help and advice to customers as needed. Be available on-call to respond to emergency queries overnight and make considered decisions. Organise assisted offloads and stranded wagon recovery operations. Monitor and maintain records of wagon availability, stranded wagons, and defective wagon numbers. Provide accurate data on stranded wagon recovery performance to support penalty charges where applicable. Deliver first-class service levels to meet and exceed customer expectations. Act as the central point of contact for all queries within the Operations office.
