The Maize Special Education Cooperative is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to provide one-on-one medical support to a student in the Life Skills program at Colwich Elementary School. This role is essential to ensuring the student's health and safety, allowing them to focus on their educational and developmental goals in the classroom setting.
Requirements include an active state nursing license, current CPR/AED, and First Aid Certification. Prior experience in pediatric, home health, or school-based nursing preferred. The ability to remain calm under pressure and work independently in a classroom environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Pulmonary Care: Monitor respiratory status; manage oxygen delivery systems, perform tracheal suctioning, or assist with ventilator/CPAP settings as prescribed.
- Cardiac Care: Monitor heart rate, blood pressure, and perfusion; recognize and respond to signs of cardiac distress or fatigue during school activities.
- Medical Monitoring: Track and document vital signs, seizure activity, or other specialized medical data throughout the school day.
- Medication & Nutrition: Administer scheduled and emergency medications; manage G-tube/J-tube feedings and site care as needed.
- Emergency Response: Act as the primary medical responder for the student in the event of a crisis, following the student’s Individualized Health Plan (IHP).
- Collaboration: Work closely with the classroom teacher, therapists, and parents to integrate medical care seamlessly into the student’s daily routine.
