Division: Global Maritimes Work Status: Full-Time Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, with occasional travel to New Brunswick (On-site) About the Role: Global News and Corus Entertainment are looking for an experienced, dynamic News Manager to lead the editorial and operations team at Global Halifax and Global New Brunswick. This role reports to the Regional Director of News, Eastern Stations and is an exciting opportunity to shape the vision, tone, and daily delivery of news across the Maritimes, inspiring a talented team to produce content that informs, engages, and makes a difference in the communities we serve. As News Manager, you will bring bold ideas, strong editorial judgment, and proven leadership skills to drive smart, innovative, and impactful programming across TV, streaming, digital, and radio platforms. You will contribute by: Lead and inspire a team of 20+ journalists and production staff producing 30+ hours of original programming weekly, plus digital and radio content. Oversee all aspects of daily news operations, including editorial planning, content development, and resource allocation. Set the tone, look, and pacing of newscasts, ensuring content meets Global News’ editorial standards and values. Champion innovative storytelling and drive the pitching, planning, and production of compelling local content. Collaborate with senior news leaders and cross-functional partners (marketing, sales, and other Global affiliates) to align strategies and share resources. Recruit, hire, mentor, and develop newsroom talent, fostering a high-performance and inclusive team culture. Lead planning and execution of breaking news coverage and special programming. Provide clear, constructive feedback and guidance to elevate content and grow team capabilities. Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of Global Maritimes. Skills and experience you will bring: The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications: Post-secondary education in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field. 10+ years of experience in television news, with a track record of leadership in a fast-paced newsroom. Strong editorial judgment and the ability to make quick, confident decisions during breaking news. Experience taking shows to air in a control room environment. Exceptional writing, storytelling, and communication skills. Proven ability to mentor and develop talent at all levels. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities under deadline pressure. High comfort level with newsroom technology, including lineup management systems. Collaborative mindset, creativity, and a passion for local news and community storytelling.
