Circa £43,000 (dependent on skills and experience) Permanent Full time / 37 hours a week Huntingdon or Lincoln / Hybrid Anglian Water offers a flexible approach; this role provides you the flexibility to work from home and from an Anglian Water office. Your base location will be in either Huntingdon or Lincoln, depending on your location. Shape, secure, and streamline M365 for a frictionless and safe digital future We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Microsoft 365 Security Operations Engineer to join our dynamic team. This is a technically challenging role responsible for the full lifecycle iteration, optimisation, and support of the Security and Compliance capabilities within our Colleague Experience Team. You’ll work closely with the Technology Architect and the Colleague Experience Manager to deliver, maintain, and enhance Microsoft’s security and compliance solutions, including Purview (Compliance), Defender (Security), and Entra. Crucially, you will ensure these controls are implemented in a way that enables our colleagues' productivity. What you’ll do: Iterate & Run: Engineer the M365 security and compliance stack across its full lifecycle. You will move beyond just maintenance to drive continuous, iterative improvement of Microsoft Purview (information protection, DLP, retention/eDiscovery) and Microsoft Defender capabilities. Balance Risk & Experience: Operate in a high-change, technically complex environment, collaborating day-to-day with Cyber Security and Colleague Experience teams. You will champion "Usable Security"; ensuring that configurations are robust, resilient, and aligned to best practice, but also intuitive for the end-user. Data-Driven Improvement: Continuously improve our protection posture by monitoring both threat signals and colleague sentiment. You will use data to identify where security controls are causing friction and optimise them to reduce support demand. Governance & Strategy: Contribute to platform governance and product direction, working with the Colleague Experience Manager, Technology Architect, and other Engineers to shape a roadmap that balances agile delivery with stability. Adoption & Enablement: Champion zero trust ways of working. You will not just configure policies (MFA, risky sign-in protections, conditional access, DLP); you will partner with our Service Desk and Tech Bar teams to ensure colleagues are supported, educated, and ready for these changes. Cross-Pillar Collaboration: Partner across the M365 Team (Core, AI and Power Platform pillars) so dependent and shared services are configured coherently, preventing "digital fragmentation" and ensuring alignment with regulatory standards. What does it take to be a Microsoft 365 Security Operations Engineer? We’re seeking a technically skilled and collaborative professional with proven experience in configuring and maintaining M365 Security and Compliance services at an enterprise scale. They will preferably hold a recognised Microsoft certification and have a strong understanding of Agile delivery frameworks and service management processes (Change, Incident, Event, Configuration, and Problem Management). Key Attributes: Experience Mindset: You understand the concept of Experience Level Agreements (XLAs) alongside traditional SLAs, recognising that a secure service is only successful if colleagues can use it effectively. Agility: You are comfortable working in a DevOps/Agile manner, utilising backlog management to prioritise rapid improvements based on real-world colleague feedback and changing threat landscapes. Values: You embody our values - doing the right thing, building trust, and always exploring. Collaboration: You are proactive in identifying and managing risks, promoting knowledge sharing, and driving operational excellence. You will champion Digital Business principles and help embed Mode 2 practices across teams, breaking down silos to deliver innovative and secure M365 solutions. As a valued employee, you’ll be entitled to: Full private healthcare with no excess 26 days leave, rising with service + Bank Holidays, with the option to swap Christmas and Easter holidays for those celebrated by your religion A flexible working culture Competitive salary sacrifice pension scheme, we double-match your contributions up to 6% (up to 18% combined) Bonus Scheme Why apply?
