Mainline Pipeline Associate Control Operator Salary: Competitive Salary Pension, Private Medical, Share Plan and Bonus Shift Allowance Lunch Allowance Valero Logistics UK Ltd operates and manages the Mainline Pipeline network from the Waterston Control Centre near Milford Haven, delivering refined fuel products from Pembroke Refinery and VPOT Terminal to terminals in the Midlands and Manchester and onwards via pipeline interconnectors to the London airports. We are currently recruiting for an Associate Pipeline Control Operator who is responsible for the monitoring and safe operation of the Pipeline. The primary function is to ensure safe and efficient fuel transportation at all times whilst meeting the delivery schedule. Main Duties Focus on safety, equipment reliability, product quality and accurate product measurement. Communicate proactively with Product Supply Schedulers, Refinery Blend Operations, Field Technicians and Terminal Operations staff to maximise efficiency of Pipeline operations. Communicate with all outside agencies relative to Pipeline operations. Adhere to the documented procedures in the Valero Commitment to Excellence Management system – CTEMS. Monitor Pipeline balance across all Pipeline segments to control Loss/Gain conditions, track product batch movements to accurately perform remote product switches into Terminal storage tanks. Manage inventory control of all Pipeline segments. Start and stop Pipeline movements, monitor tank levels, pipeline pressures and flows. Respond to Emergency conditions on the Pipeline and be able to shutdown the Pipeline safely at all times, follow procedures and complete all documentation. This is a primarily 24/7-365 day operation working a 12 hour 5 shift system but applicants will expected to work days as required or to make secondments onto days as the business requires. Act as a Pipeline Emergency Response Operative, liaising between MLP staff and outside agencies in the event of any incidents. Issue Work Permits and assist in reviewing the RAMS/Method Statements for works along the pipeline. Liaise with MLP’s Land Agents and field based contractors to monitor activities near the pipeline Competencies / Skills / Education Skills/Competencies/qualifications Minimum of four GCSEs (grade C or above) or equivalents in Mathematics, English, Science and a Technology based subject together with a technological, Instrument/Electrical or Mechanical background. Previous experience in Pipeline/Terminal or Operations preferred or a trade-based apprenticeship with relevant skills Proficient with all Microsoft applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong interpersonal skills required. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritise and handle multiple tasks concurrently, managing time and scheduling to meet appropriate deadlines. Ability to take directions from Control Room Supervision and work in a team environment when required. Ability to work independently with limited supervision. Applicant must be comfortable lone-working for extended periods and working night shifts.
