Division: News Gathering Work Status: Full-Time (40 hours per week) Location: Toronto, ON - Don Mills (On-site) About the Role: Global News has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Network Managing Editor, Local Online. Reporting to the Senior Network Managing Editor, the successful candidate will be responsible for daily editorial direction and oversight of all local online content. You will be assigning local stories, coordinating story assignments with other teams, and communicating future editorial planning on local events. You will contribute by: Manage the daily editorial agenda to ensure story pitches, assignments and elements align for our digital Global News platforms. Develop workflows to ensure maximum efficiency from a centralized team that covers breaking news and local news across the country. Initiate and develop online coverage plans for key storylines of network interest. Collaborate with fellow Global News managers to bring existing coverage plans to fruition for online platforms and bring content ideas and strategies to life. Act quickly to mobilize teams in breaking news events. Communicate coverage plans and assignments effectively and quickly. Be an advisor at story meetings for teams focused on various Global News platforms. Coordinate video needs for online content and support logistics planning as required. Support reporters in the field as required. Work effectively under pressure with the ability to meet multiple deadlines. Demonstrate strong editorial, visual and communications skills. Monitor for breaking news. Skills and experience you will bring: Diploma/Degree in Journalism/Broadcasting or equivalent experience. Experienced journalist capable of managing and planning for daily news. Strong writing and storytelling skills Demonstrate strong news judgment in line with network objectives. Strong critical thinking skills with ability to adjust to changing priorities and objectives. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Be able to meet strict deadlines and work co-operatively with others in a teamwork setting. Willingness to adapt to rapidly changing technology and workflows as well as show a willingness to learn new online skills in a multi-faceted digital news operation. Familiarity with current state of online news reporting and where it is headed. Experience in updating online and broadcast content with a content management system. Must be proficient in creating, curating, and developing content using digital operating systems for multiple platforms.
