Lead the way in managing digital risk and strengthening our resilience. Technology underpins all of Anglian Water’s critical services with the result that risk, and its management, is a crucial element of the Data, Digital and Technology (DDaT) Department’s operations. Increasingly complex IT and Operational Technology (OT) networks and systems bring with them increased risk exposure as well opportunities. Current business priorities place an emphasis on the use of innovative and disruptive new technologies which AW needs to understand from a risk perspective if is to effectively and efficiently support the Business. AW has engaged in a project to review its risk culture and regime to enable the efficient and effective management of risk across all functions and teams. This varied role conducts activities across all areas of the risk management programme within DDaT and will be the primary resource for providing high quality risk management advice and guidance. The role of the Risk Manager is to lead the risk management function within DDaT, ensuring the efficient and effective management of all Technology risk from the team level, through the Operational and on to the Leadership Team level. The Risk Manager will be expected to provide a business-focused approach to risk management, promote a healthy risk culture and design / provide risk awareness and education training to all DDaT staff. Key to success will be linking Technology risks to business aims/objectives, customer requirements and required / current regulatory obligations. The role holder will be expected to have a good understanding of a broad range of IT and OT operations activities and technology alongside detailed technical and procedural risk remediation knowledge. What you’ll be doing: You will lead the development and delivery of a proactive risk management culture across Anglian Water’s IT and OT environments. You’ll ensure risks are identified, assessed, managed, and communicated effectively, helping the organisation balance innovation with resilience. You’ll: · Own and evolve the IS Risk Management Framework, embedding best practice and ensuring it remains relevant and effective. · Drive continuous improvement in risk processes, governance, and reporting across the IT and OT estate. · Collaborate closely with DDaT teams, service towers, partners, and stakeholders to address root causes of risk and improve overall resilience. · Provide expert guidance on risk assessment, escalation, and mitigation, ensuring alignment to business priorities, regulatory obligations, and the wider Enterprise Risk Management strategy. · Manage and monitor risk registers, KPIs, and KRIs to provide clear, business-focused insight for senior stakeholders. · Represent DDaT in risk governance forums and committees, providing updates and influencing decisions at all levels. · Deliver risk awareness training and promote a strong risk culture. We’re seeking a passionate, strategic, and highly skilled risk leader with proven experience driving risk strategies across large, complex organisations. You’ll have a strong track record of embedding risk frameworks, influencing senior stakeholders, and delivering continuous improvement in risk management. You’ll be: · Confident engaging with senior stakeholders — including board members, directors, and technical teams — translating complex risk issues into clear, business-focused insights. · Skilled at designing and delivering risk awareness and education programmes to promote a strong risk culture. · Personable and adaptable, able to build trust and influence both technical and non-technical colleagues. · Determined, resilient, and attentive to detail, with strong problem-solving skills. · Experienced in leading and mentoring providing guidance, and championing risk management best practice. · Knowledgeable in service design, transition, and operations principles, with a focus on aligning risk management to business strategy. Qualifications and experience: · Knowledge of risk management frameworks such as ISO 31000, with demonstrable experience implementing and improving risk frameworks in complex IT environments. · Strong experience in project governance, · Proven track record of managing executive-level stakeholders and working with outsourced IT partners. · Experience in risk modelling, mitigation, governance, and compliance oversight. · Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to adapt communication to a wide range of audiences.
