Custodian Posting Type: Internal (CUPE Local 5478) Rate: $21.25/hour Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Location: Multiple Sites (Main Building and Mercy House/Shelter) Shifts: Flexible schedule including days, evenings and weekends Overview The Gathering Place is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Custodian to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our Guests, Staff, and Volunteers. Reporting to the Manager of Facilities, this position plays a key role in supporting the health, safety, and dignity of everyone who walks through our doors. Working across multiple sites, the Custodian will carry out our regular cleaning duties, uphold safety protocols, and ensure that all areas are sanitized according to a documented cleaning plan. What You’ll Do Maintain cleanliness across all areas by following daily and weekly cleaning schedules. Safely handle cleaning products and equipment in line with WHIMIS and infection control standards. Replenish supplies (paper products, soap, etc.) as needed. Keep custodial carts and storage areas clean, organized, and stocked. Report any safety issues, equipment malfunctions, or supply needs. Uphold respectful and professional conduct while working in shared spaces. Adapt to shift needs including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Support TGP’s mission and values through safe and consistent custodial practices. What You Bring Experience in custodial, janitorial, or housekeeping work, preferably in community or institutional settings. WHMIS training or chemical safety knowledge (asset) Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform physically demanding tasks. Strong reliability, time management, and attention to detail Comfort working independently or as part of a team Respectful approach to working in environments that support vulnerable populations Clear Record of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check required Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered.
