Job Description: Assists in the routine maintenance of the County park grounds, buildings, and equipment. This maintenance work is performed at the semiskilled level. The work performed is of a routine nature and procedures and standards to be maintained are clearly outlined, and the work is carefully checked upon completion. Essential Job Functions Installs locks and repairs doors. Builds and repairs picnic tables, benches, etc. Installs window panes. Repairs leaky faucets, sinks, toilets, and urinals. Replaces light fixtures and bulbs. Marks ball field base lines. Replaces nets on tennis courts, and keeps courts free of debris. Installs and maintains fences, backstops, etc. Cleans snack bars and restrooms. Greases tractors, bush-hogs, and mowers. Cleans out drainage ditches. Cuts grass with power mower. Maintains flower beds and shrubbery in parks. Rakes and loads grass, leaves, and brush. Cleans grounds. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (These are pre-employment KSA that apply only to Essential Job Functions.) Knowledge of-- Operation of tractors and trucks. Equipment maintenance. The operation of power mowers, garden and other hand tools. Carpentry, plumbing and electrical work. A variety of grounds maintenance tasks. Ability to-- Perform routine manual work. Follow directions. Deal effectively with the public. Required Qualifications (Note: Any acceptable combination of education, training and relevant experience that provides the above knowledge, abilities and skills may be substituted on a full-time year for year basis.) Training and/or Education: Completion of the tenth grade. Experience: Six months experience in grounds maintenance work. Licenses or Certificates: Valid driver’s license and a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Regulations may be required. Special Requirements: Must be 18 years of age. Operation of County owned vehicle. Subject to background investigation if employed in the Department of Parks and Recreation or Department of Public Works Buildings and Grounds. Physical Demands: Work requires strenuous physical effort to perform manual work involving walking over rough, uneven terrain, repeated bending, climbing, crouching, stopping, stretching, reaching or lifting objects up to 100 pounds.
