Job Description: Position Purpose summary: The Housekeeper/ Janitor maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and or grounds in compliance with applicable standards. KEY Accountabilities: The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class concerning the work area within which they are assigned: Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, including residential rooms, common areas, classrooms, lobby areas and other common areas as may be assigned such as dining room, kitchen, laundry rooms, multi-purpose room and staff work areas and offices. Performs sweeping, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as balcony areas, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floors, outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking Participates in ensuring building security, checks doors and windows to ensure they are locked and secure Reports health and safety related concerns and repair issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures) that affect or may affect the workplace and residential environment for Staff and Residents. Restocks washroom supplies and hand hygiene units Spot washes accessible walls, strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpet Some work areas may participate in dorm room, office and/or classroom furniture moving Performs other duties as assigned The performance of the job requires frequently operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, shoveling snow etc. Frequent lifting of items such as garbage, laundry and other workspace related items- not normally to exceed 25lbs (note: for weights exceeding 25 lbs - proper manpower and equipment will be supplied and utilized) The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized equipment and general cleaning. NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties. MANAGERIAL RESPONSIBILITY: Reports directly to: Property Manager Direct reports: None FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: n/a The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct. education and experience Qualifications: Education, Qualifications and Certifications: The successful job applicant will have completed Public School. WHMIS Training BSW Level 1 training. Ability and willingness to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements The incumbent must have up to three months of prior related experience, including previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures. The salary range is based on the Collective Agreement, not any other factors. Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $22.32 to $22.57 with a maximum of $22.82. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
