Department: CWCL ______________ Company: Canary Wharf Contractors Limited ______________ Reporting to: Senior Health & Safety Manager ______________ JOB SUMMARY The Health & Safety Coordinator plays a proactive role in supporting Canary Wharf Contractors (CWCL) to uphold the highest standards of health and safety across all construction activities. The coordinator will be instrumental in implementing and maintaining CWCL’s health and safety policies and procedures, carrying out site inspections, and promoting a strong safety culture across all project teams. This is a site-based role, and regular working from home is not feasible due to the operational requirements of the position. Hours: Monday - Friday, between 08:30 to 17:30 (Site Based) Salary: £40,000 (Dependent on Experience) MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in the implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of CWC’s H&S management system. Ensure site activities comply with relevant legislation, CWC policies, and project-specific safety plans. Support the preparation and maintenance of site H&S documentation. Conduct regular inspections and audits of construction sites, equipment and work practices to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Collaborate with the CWC site team, trade contractors and workers to address identified hazards and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks. Assist in developing and updating health and safety policies, procedures and best practices, progressing to delivering toolbox talks and safety inductions. Assist in investigating accidents, incidents and near misses, collecting evidence and prepare detailed reports with recommendations for preventive measures and improvements. Maintain accurate records of health and safety activities, including inspection reports, training sessions and incident investigations. Stay updated on relevant health and safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement. To attend formal training sessions/courses and to undertake self-study as required to fulfil the role and to progress your personal and professional development. Work closely with other departments within the Canary Wharf Group to ensure that health and safety considerations are integrated into all aspects of construction projects. Collaborate with the H&S management department to share best practices, coorddinate initiatives, and ensure consistency in health and safety standards across Canary Wharf. To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Senior Health and Safety Managers, Project Executive and Associate Director for Health and Safety. PERSON SPECIFICATION Although preferred it is not imperative the individual has experience in the construction industry. A reasonable knowledge of UK health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards and how they play a key part of keeping everybody safe. National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety (NEBOSH) or equivalent qualification (NVQ Level 3 etc) is preferred. Will be expected to work towards becoming a member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). Willing to learn about all aspects of Health and Safety including its proactive and practical approach. Have strong verbal and written communication skills as well as strong IT skills for developing presentations and flow charts etc. Have an interest in developing your ability to conduct risk assessments, accident investigations, implementing and enforcing corrective actions. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with site personnel, subcontractors and colleagues across different departments. Imperative that you are a team player with a strong willingness to learn and think for yourself, this may involve taking a stand and delivering a disciplinary process. Can develop and implement Health and Safety performance related systems and procedures where required. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
