Job overview / Introduction The Head of Software Engineering will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Squarcle’s software engineering organisation, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and innovative technology solutions. This individual will drive the company’s engineering strategy, foster a culture of technical excellence, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve business objectives. Primary Roles and Responsibilities Lead, mentor, and scale a high-performing software engineering team. Develop and execute the technology roadmap to align with Squarcle’s strategic goals and product road map. Ensure the delivery of high-quality, secure, and scalable cloud-based software solutions. Collaborate with partners to OEM third party technology solutions to ensure “best in class” solutions for non-core features and capabilities. Champion best practices in agile development, DevOps, and CI/CD methodologies. Embed quality engineering practices across teams, including automated testing frameworks, test coverage standards, and continuous quality measurement within CI/CD pipelines. Define and govern the organisation’s end-to-end testing strategy, ensuring robust quality gates across unit, integration, system, performance, and security testing. Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering teams. Work closely with Product teams to drive customer-centric development. Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies to maintain Squarcle’s competitive edge. Oversee engineering budgets, resource allocation, and vendor relationships. Establish and enforce engineering standards, coding guidelines, and system architecture best practices. Lead technical due diligence and integration efforts for potential mergers and acquisitions. Secondary Roles and Responsibilities Assist with the Squarcle recruitment and retention activities. Support the development of Squarcle policies and processes. Support thought leadership and business development outputs. Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Essential) 10+ years of experience in software engineering. Proven track record of leading cloud based SaaS development teams. Expertise in modern software architecture, microservices, and cloud platforms (ideally Azure). Experience with Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines. Deep understanding of quality engineering, test automation frameworks, and modern testing methodologies (e.g., shift left, Test Driven Development (TDD) / Behaviour Driven Development (BDD), performance and security testing). Proven experience establishing testing governance, quality standards, and automated quality gates within enterprise scale SaaS environments. Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Desirable) Understanding of supply chain analytics (would be an advantage). What we offer We believe great work deserves great rewards. Our working hours are 8:30am – 5:30pm (with an hour for lunch), Monday – Friday. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This role requires you to have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and obtain Security Check (SC) security clearance. Clearance must be obtained without any caveats that prevent you from carrying out the role you’ve been recruited for.
