What You’ll Do

As a Field Service Technician, you’ll diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty trucks at customer job sites with efficiency and professionalism. You will:

  • Perform unsupervised repairs and diagnostics in accordance with dealership and factory standards
  • Complete major component repairs and overhauls, including engine, driveline, electrical, and A/C systems
  • Diagnose malfunctions based on inspections and customer concerns
  • Communicate with service and parts departments to coordinate workflow and secure needed parts
  • Save, tag, and track warranty parts; open OEM and vendor diagnostic cases as required
  • Document all repairs and recommendations on work orders with accuracy
  • Road test vehicles and perform inspections for safety or additional service needs
  • Install optional equipment, report defects, and keep customers informed of repair status
  • Maintain greater than 80% productivity and 95% efficiency
  • Keep service truck clean, neat, and safe; wash weekly
  • Assist fellow technicians and participate in ongoing manufacturer training programs
  • Adhere to federal, state, and local safety regulations, including OSHA and hazardous waste handling
  • Maintain dealership-owned tools and work area cleanliness
  • Promote health and safety policies in all work environments

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Vocational/technical school graduate with 5+ years related experience, or equivalent training
  • Strong background in engine and driveline troubleshooting, electrical systems, and A/C repair
  • Ability to overhaul major components and perform advanced diagnostics
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Good supply of personal hand tools required

Required Certifications & Licenses:

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications
  • Drive Train Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck
  • HVAC Certification for Medium/Heavy Truck
  • State Vehicle Inspector Certification (Class 7)
  • MX Engine Certification
  • Cummins MD and HD Certification
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B or higher (must meet company insurability standards)
  • Valid Driver’s License (must meet company insurability standards)

 

Physical Requirements

  • Regular standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling
  • Frequent lifting of 50+ lbs; ability to lift/move more than 100 lbs occasionally
  • Visual abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment

 

Work Environment

  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and outside weather
  • Occasional work at heights or in loud environments
  • Team-based shop and field setting
