Job Description: JOB PURPOSE: The Family Services Intake Worker assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, the Salvation Army. This may involve providing administration and operational requirements of special programs. ROLES CLIENT SERVICES Conducts initial intake assessments by appointment (including evaluation of client/family protection issues), determining immediate needs and supports needed by the client. Provides emergency assistance services or referrals (i.e., shelter, food, clothing etc.) in accordance with policy. Through exercising empathetic care, assists individuals to determine an appropriate and mutually agreed upon goal process; facilitates effective problem-solving behaviors of the client/family. ADMINISTRATION Maintains a high level of confidentiality. Handles “Third Party Client” program as per contract obligations. Keeps accurate client files and statistical records using “Link 2 Feed.” Answers the phone, makes appointments, and does any necessary paperwork. Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations according to Food Safety regulations May have to arrange for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy. Maintains a clean and organized workspace including intake office and food storage room COMMUNICATION Networks and refers to The Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program when necessary. Treats all clients with respect and dignity. PROGRAM May organize special programs. Prepares and distributes Hampers for clients. May assist in the kitchen and as needed. Supervises the Dining room during lunch meal May assist clients with services during the lunch meal. May assist in pick up of donations. PUBLIC RELATIONS Provides visibility for The Salvation Army by maintaining positive relations within the community through public through Community Network Committees HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENTAL Ensure that proper safety precautions and hygiene standards are followed including Universal Precautions. Ensures high standards of sanitation and cleanliness are maintained throughout the kitchen, washrooms, foodbank, dining room and food storage areas including removing kitchen & dining room waste. Demonstrate a high standard of personal hygiene. May be required to ensure that the building is secure and that safety standards are always met or exceeded. Participate in monthly workplace inspections. Qualifications and Education requirements: Completion of High School, Grade 12 or equivalent plus specialized courses relating to position an asset. NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable. Education/Certifications: The successful applicant will hold/have: Food Safe Level I First Aid Certification Experience: Previous training in Family Service Work an asset Required Skills/Knowledge: Fluent spoken and written English Good team and interpersonal skills Valid Driver’s License and clean drivers abstract. Good communication and conflict resolution skills Good working knowledge of Office 365 platform Able to handle physical demands which include lifting/ carrying of items up to 20 pounds. PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: Mental Health First Aid, Naloxone training, Link 2 feed training Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide: A clear vulnerable sector screening Completion of all required Health and Safety training Immunization for Hepatitis B and vaccination against Tuberculosis Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $22.45 to $22.80 with a maximum of $23.14. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
