Job Description: Job Profile Summary Under close/general supervision by licensed personnel the Emergency Department Technician will perform a variety of functions in support and care of patients requiring urgent or emergency care in an urgent care or emergency medical setting. The Emergency Department Technician will work directly with and provide close observation of patients assigned to their care. Care assignment is delegated through registered nurses and/or providers. The Emergency Department Technician will maintain an orderly work environment at nursing station/exam areas; responds to patient care needs; transports patients; delivers specimens to lab; data entry for orders; answers phone, performs EKGs and directs calls to RN's on duty as required. Base Wage + 10% differential must work two shifts per 6-week schedule. Variable shifts. Job Description Shift Details: PRN Essential Functions: Will be required to assist with lab drawings as needed. Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors and communicate significant observations to nursing staff. Receives, greets and directs patients, visitors and hospital personnel. Provides accurate responses in a friendly, timely and courteous manner. Ability to access, manage and update patient medical records through Hospital Electronic Medical Record Information System. Maintains HIPAA rules, regulations and follows "Patients’ Rights Policy" at all times. Appropriately directs phone calls to RN's, relays messages, maintains confidentiality in department at all times. Utilizes proper phone etiquette at all times. Monitor behavior, recognize behavioral escalation, provide therapeutic de-escalation Coordinate and assist with care as directed. Attend to physical needs of patients and family in collaboration with RN's and Physicians. Including assistance with personal hygiene tasks, such as bathing, toileting and caring for incontinence if necessary along with feeding and mobility. Acquires and accurately documents vital signs. Completes assigned duties of data entry for orders and procedures. Provides therapeutic patient interaction Utilize Crisis Prevention Intervention when exposed to volatile patients to maintain personal safety while ensuring safety for the patient and other individuals on the unit. Fosters good public relations for the hospital. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with organizational mission and goals. Follows all applicable hospital policies and procedures. Follows policies and procedures for infection control and facility safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of information management as appropriate. Always Work cooperatively and productively with physicians, Social workers, crisis response workers, nurses, other providers and staff, patients and families. Coordinates activity in department at direction of RN's and communicates well with all members of patient care team to meet patient needs. Closely monitors patient and environment to provide safe area for both associates and patient. 17. Demonstrates proficiency and assist with other technical function such as: obtaining 12-lead EKGs Assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, Assists with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressings Assist nursing staff in responding to emergency situations. Assist with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures. Monitor and document nutritional intake. Assists in assessment and planning for high-risk patient services. Physical Requirements: Required: High School Diploma or Genera Education Degree (GED) Basic rhythm recognition competency within 6 months of hire BLS required within 3 months of hire Preferred: Current C.N.A. One to three months related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience Previous experience in a mental health setting Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
