About the role Own and deliver the strategic plan for IGD’s work on environmental sustainability and population diet, maximising our impact Lead and develop a passionate team of programme heads, managers and technical experts Act as an ambassador for IGD, developing and nurturing a strong network of external stakeholders across industry, academia, government and NGOs in order to drive the scale and impact of our programmes Play an important role in the Social Impact Leadership team and IGD’s broader leadership team to support the organisation’s long-term strategic objectives Responsibilities Reporting directly into the Social Impact Director, you will have the following direct reports: Head of Environmental Sustainability x 1 Head of Population Diet x 1 With these roles supported by five additional roles. Strategic Lead the long-term strategic development of our Environmental Sustainability and Population Diet work in collaboration with our industry leaders forums and networks to ultimately deliver public benefit Review and evaluate the effectiveness of our programmes on an ongoing basis, and make continuous improvements to maximise scale and impact Identify and develop new workstreams to respond to the changing landscape of and in line with IGD’s long-term strategy and ambition Operational Accountable for delivery of KPI targets for the environmental sustainability and population diet change work, and support the performance of the wider Social Impact KPIs Provide direction to Heads of Programmes to ensure implementation and delivery of an annual operational plan, with clear and ambitious targets Manage resources and budget appropriately to achieve the plan Work with the broader IGD leadership team to prioritise and manage resources across the organisation effectively People Lead and develop the team to help them realise their full potential, taking a coaching and mentoring approach Own the performance management, development, culture and succession planning across the team Manage issues arising within the team sensitively, effectively and in a timely way Build strong working relationships across the organisation to encourage collaboration and sharing of knowledge Champion effective ways of working and role model IGD behaviours at all times External Engagement Lead the development and execution of an engagement strategy for environmental sustainability and population diet, working collaboratively with colleagues across IGD Build strong network of senior contacts across the industry to increase engagement with our programmes and ensure they are highly relevant to the industry Lead our relevant industry groups (Food System Change Leaders Forum, Industry Nutrition Leaders Forum, and adhoc project/steering groups) to agree common priorities and actions, identifying how IGD can support Develop positive working relationships with external influencers and policy makers in the public health and sustainability arena What you bring Leadership skills: Ability to create a strong strategy that delivers measurable impact Proven track record in managing and developing high performing teams – ability to identify and support reward and performance management approaches that motivate and inspire for great performance Impactful communicator with the ability to adapt communication style to a wide range of audiences, internally and externally Good networker at all levels of seniority Commercial acumen and customer focus Functional skills: Experience of operating at a senior level within a commercial or not for profit organisation Technical knowledge of the sustainability agenda, with a focus on environmental sustainability and practical experience of managing related projects and stakeholders Sound knowledge of the food and grocery industry in the UK Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams to deliver large programmes and managing complex stakeholder networks An understanding of the public health landscape would be beneficial but not essential The rewards We offer a range of benefits, including a market leading pension, a bonus scheme, the ability to buy and sell annual leave plus a generous medical insurance package.
