The Role

To work as part of a team providing a high-quality dental or orthodontic service to the public by providing clinical support to dental surgeons/ hygienists or orthodontists, working closely with colleagues to maintain high standards of Infection prevention and control and improve the service to patients.

It will be a core requirement for the post holder to work across the service disciplines with various staff grades, including with Dentists, Orthodontists and Hygienists. Due to core service requirements, no accommodation can be provided to any dental nurse who is not in a position to work across the service in all disciplines.

The Person

1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

(a) Candidates must:

(i) Possess a Diploma in Dental Nursing from The University of Dublin/Dublin Dental University Hospital, or The University Dental School & Hospital Cork or NUI, Cork.

Or

(ii) Possess the Higher Certificate in Science in Dental Nursing from Athlone Institute of Technology or Letterkenny Institute of Technology.

Or

(iii) Holds a qualification in Dental Nursing awarded by National Examining Board of Dental Nursing (NEBDN) in the United Kingdom.

Or

(iv) Be registered as a Dental Nurse with the Dental Council of Ireland or be entitled to be so registered.

Or

(v) Hold a qualification in dental nursing which in the opinion of the Dental Council of Ireland is equivalent to (i), (ii) or (iii) above.

And

(b) Candidates must have the clinical and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role..

2. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

3. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be

of good character.
