Job Details Job Location: St Thomas, VI 00803 Position Type: Contractor Education Level: 4 Year Degree Salary Range: $51.00 - $57.00 Hourly Travel Percentage: Negligible Job Shift: Any This position is responsible for providing primary healthcare to incarcerated individuals, including performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses, managing chronic conditions, prescribing medication, and coordinating with other healthcare professionals within the correctional facility, all while adhering to strict security protocols and regulations within the correctional environment. This is a 1099 Contractor Position that is a minimum of 13 weeks, and eligible for renewal. APRNs shall work in-person, full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 hours daily. We are seeking a qualified candidate who will provide comprehensive medical care to inmates at the Correctional Facility along with a current RN license and preferably one year of experience in emergency or critical care nursing to join their team. This role will in-person be in the US Virgin Islands in either St. Croix or St. Thomas. The pay range for this position is $51-$57/hour and includes a monthly stipend that will be discussed. Responsibilities: Conducts comprehensive physical examinations, diagnoses and treats patients, issues information and initiates emergency care procedures to a population of male and female incarcerated patients. Provides medical clinical coverage and is responsible and accountable for the continuity of healthcare for male and female patients with acute and chronic illnesses and other conditions requiring medical care and treatment. Orders, reviews, and interprets laboratory results, x-rays, and EKG's. Analyzes data collected to determine patient health status and identifies differential diagnosis based on patient history, physical examinations, and clinical findings and discusses the results with the patient. Prescribes, administers, and dispenses medication. Acts as an advocate for incarcerated patients requiring immediate medical action to improve healthcare status or makes informed decisions about the healthcare treatment plans before they are administered. Consults with the physician as needed to coordinate a plan of care, implement inpatient treatments, review mental assessments, and/or to discuss disease prevention and patient education needs. Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including: biopsies, suturing, wound care, incisions and drainage, splint and casting. Evaluates assessment data to define health and developmental problems. Conducts quality assurance studies of chart documents and the quality care provided to incarcerated patients. Assists in preparing training materials for ongoing and continuing education courses. Actively participates in interdisciplinary patient care meetings and addresses the identified clinical needs of the patient. Providing initial health assessments, which includes, but is not limited to, receiving and reviewing screening information, asking detailed questions regarding identified issues, performing physical examinations, referring persons to address immediate needs with appropriate level of care. Managing sick-calls for non-emergent health care needs within 24 hours of sick calls and an evaluation. Qualifications Must hold a Master’s or Doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited program. Credentials may include Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), and Nurse Midwives (CNMs) Must possess and maintain a valid APRN license - must be willing to obtain USVI license by endorsement Minimum one year of experience in corrections, psychiatric, emergency care, cultural competency, or trauma-informed care Experience in a surgical setting or with critical care and emergency nursing is highly desirable Active ACLS Certification Ability to communicate effectively using written and oral communication skills Ability to use effective positive interpersonal skills Computer proficiency including basic word processing, spreadsheet, and database software skills Strong organizational skills and time management skills Satisfactory criminal background check and drug screening Ability to assist students by action or interaction in carrying out specialized therapeutic or physical care plans and procedures Ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of special needs and therapeutic equipment; familiarity with HIPAA laws of confidentiality Must possess knowledge of OSHA compliance standards Ability to work independently and make decisions with minimum supervision Ability to compose correspondence and prepare reports in an articulate manner Must have the ability to interpret program trends, results, and related data to formulate recommendations Ability to manage multiple priorities with strong skills in planning and problem solving Physical Requirements: Capable of working extended hours if and when the position requires it. Able to see well enough to read faint or partially obscured writing or printing, with corrective lenses if needed. Position involves sitting, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, shoving, lifting, carrying, and moving objects that can weigh up to 50 lbs. This movement can occur throughout the day. Must be able to interact with all types of individuals, be mentally alert, detail oriented, and with good reasoning skills. Must have finger dexterity for holding objects, typing, etc.
