Responsibilities
Role Summary:
The Control Room Manager –leads the supplier’s 24/7 Operations Control Centre, overseeing real-time monitoring, alarm handling, and maintenance coordination for the full fleet of deployed Battery Energy Storage Systems. This role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all systems under the company’s responsibility. The Manager is accountable for operational performance, control room procedures, quality of incident response, in-depth fault analysis, and the accuracy and completeness of operational data used for internal and customer performance reporting (Monthly, Quarterly, Annual), including Availability and CRTE.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Management of the 24/7 Control Room
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of shift-based Control Room Engineers.
- Maintain staffing and shift schedules for 24/7 coverage.
- Conduct performance reviews, training, and competency development.
- Ensure consistent and high-quality shift handovers.
2. Operational Oversight of BESS Fleet
- Oversee real-time monitoring of all BESS assets using SCADA, EMS, BMS, and other platforms.
- Ensure systems operate safely within OEM limits and contract requirements.
- Maintain operational standards for alarm monitoring, fault escalation, and incident response.
- Ensure operator actions follow safety and warranty guidelines.
3. Alarm Response & Incident Management
- Own the escalation framework for alarms, faults, and anomalies.
- Review major incidents to determine root causes and corrective actions.
- Validate incident documentation and ensure complete record-keeping.
- Provide decision-making support during major events.
4. Maintenance Coordination & Predictive Support
- Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance with Field Service Teams.
- Ensure systems are safely prepared and reintegrated before/after maintenance.
- Monitor operational trends for early signs of degradation or failure.
- Work with analytics teams to improve predictive maintenance models.
5. Operational Reporting & KPI Ownership
Responsible for operational data used in:
- Daily and weekly operational summaries.
- Monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual performance reports.
- Customer-facing availability and CRTE data.
- End-of-year contractual performance reporting.
Ensure all documentation required for warranty and compliance is accurate.
6. Procedure Development & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain SOPs for monitoring, incident handling, maintenance, and shift operations.
- Drive continuous improvement across workflows, alarm strategy, and uptime.
- Implement training modules and operator qualification pathways.
- Align processes with OEM guidance and internal standards.
7. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Liaise with Field Service, Data Analytics, Engineering, R&D, and Commissioning.
- Provide clear communication during incidents and escalations.
- Support new site onboarding and operational readiness.
Requirements
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 5+ years in control room, industrial monitoring, or energy operations.
- Strong understanding of BESS behaviour, SCADA/EMS/BMS systems, and alarm management.
- Experience managing shift-based teams.
- Knowledge of KPIs such as availability, CRTE, and maintenance metrics.
Management & Soft Skills:
- Proven leadership in 24/7 operational environments.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to make decisions under pressure.
- Skilled in workflow management and process optimization.
 
Preferred Experience:
- Supplier-side or OEM experience with BESS, power electronics or Renewables.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance or reliability engineering.
- Familiarity with HV equipment and operational standards.
- Experience in customer-facing operational discussions.
- In depth knowledge of BESS systems
