Purpose of Role:

The Head of Department of Global Health will lead the strategic, academic, and operational development of CHI’s Global Health programme. This role combines clinical expertise with strategic leadership in global child health partnerships, research, and advocacy.

The post holder will: 

• Provide leadership in developing CHI’s global health vision, strategy, and partnerships.

• Strengthen collaboration between CHI, HSE Global Health, Paediatric Inclusion Health, NGOs, WHO, EU, RCPI, and academic institutions.

• Foster equitable, sustainable, and bidirectional partnerships with healthcare organisations in resource-limited settings.

• Promote child health equity through advocacy, education, research, and knowledge exchange.

• Support CHI’s global engagement as a national and international centre of excellence in paediatric care and humanitarian response.

Essential Criteria:

Skills, Competencies, and Attributes:

  • Demonstrated leadership and strategic planning ability.
  • Strong understanding of global child health systems, equity, and sustainability.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in multidisciplinary and cross-cultural collaboration.
  • Advocacy and influencing skills at policy level.
  • Commitment to research, education, and continuous professional development.
  • Eligibility Criteria

Mandatory:

  • Registered as a Specialist in Paediatrics or a Paediatric specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland.
  • Significant clinical and leadership experience in paediatrics.
  • Minimum 1 years in a consultant role in CHI

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification or fellowship in Global Health, Public Health, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in international or humanitarian health partnerships or service development.
  • Demonstrated academic record in global or inclusion health.
