Job Description: Position Purpose summary: Community and Family Services support work is focused on supporting, promoting, and enhancing wellbeing of individuals and families as well as assisting immediate needs of clients, donors, and visitors through emergency client assistance, Food Bank, community feeding programs, community referrals, seasonal programs (including Backpacks, Summer Camps, and Christmas) and other programs that are developed to meet the needs of clients and the community ACCOUNTABILITIES: KEY Accountabilities: The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties. As directed, support pre-planned program activities for the community (food bank, crafts, sports, games, music, homework stations, Bible-based devotions, community church, meetings, students support, etc.). Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities. Provide general assistance during public relations events and regular campaigns. Maintain strict confidentiality of all matters pertaining to the program participants. Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs. May assist with different basic administrative tasks – photocopy activities, greeting visitors, supporting reception, forwarding visitors, etc. as required. May keep a log of different activities. Assists in the organization, Maintenance:, and general cleanliness of the lessons area. Assist with the MU/facility general clean up and set up for different activities. Provide general information to visitors. Performs other work-related duties as assigned. Conducts initial intake assessments using CMS for client assistance (including evaluation of client/family protection). Responsible for pre-established food donation pickups. Maintains weekly inventory control according to pre-established levels. Assigns and coordinates work of Family Services volunteers as directed by corps officers. Assists in the development and coordination of seasonal or special programs (income tax preparation, Summer Camps, Toy drives, Lunch programs, School backpack program, etc.) Attends community meetings on behalf of Family Services program as directed by corps officers. Maintains confidentiality and keeps accurate client files on Link2Feed and statistical records. Prepares and provide Family Services statistical reports at a frequency requested by the Corps Officers. Maintains a list of relationships with other community agency services to assist with appropriate client referral to meet identified client needs. Other work-related tasks/duties as requested for the good of the Ministry Unit. Perform Administrative tasks for Corps Officer; Answers phone calls, takes messages and appointments for Foodbank FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: Minor material responsibility. Regular responsibility for minor financial matters and for wise use of own resources May be authorized to handle small amounts of cash Little input to annual budget or revenue projections The incumbent may be involved in financial matters (seasonal Income tax, or Christmas time) Weekly inventory control Uses or maintains organizational assets in accordance with established guidelines Working Conditions: The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the office space. Required to lift or move up to 30 pounds with no assistance from others. Working Environment is typically in the Corps Building in generally agreeable conditions Some work over weekends and evenings may be required Ability to lift up to 30lbs Deals with vulnerable people; challenging behaviors Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years related to Human Services is required Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures Able to provide Criminal Background Check screening and Vulnerable Sector Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements A minimum of two years of related experience is required, including life skills Skills and Capabilities Experience in Microsoft Office programs (word, excel, etc.) Knowledge of Link2Feed considered an asset Knowledge in the field of Social Service and Human Resources is an asset Good decision and problem-solving skills Effective listening and communication skills Time management skills Able to work under stress Understanding of individuals of diverse social and cultural backgrounds Self-motivated, mission minded individual. Able to work individually or as a team member. Able to connect with Community Groups in support of the SA Mission. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
