The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. The Housing Resource Centre (HRC), housed in the Rideau Building, is a student-led service under the AMS Commission of External Affairs. It supports undergraduate students in navigating the off-campus housing landscape through direct case support, resource development, and advocacy. The HRC provides services such as lease reviews, guidance on tenant rights, assistance with landlord disputes, and information about Kingston’s rental market. Officers play a key role in daily operations, including supporting students during office hours, maintaining case records, and contributing to campaigns and programming. They are also critical to Housing Advocacy Weeks and community engagement efforts. Officers are trained in confidentiality, housing legislation, and student-centered advocacy, and serve as a bridge between individual student needs and broader housing reform efforts. Responsibilities: • Staff HRC office hours weekly and support students with housing-related concerns. • Conduct lease reviews and assist with writing/supporting tenant correspondence when appropriate. • Maintain accurate and confidential case documentation using the CEA case intake system. • Assist in the planning and execution of Housing Advocacy Weeks and related events. • Participate in training sessions on Ontario tenancy law, AMS policy, and case management. • Develop and update student-facing resources such as housing guides and rights explainers. • Collaborate with other CEA volunteers, the Commissioner, and external stakeholders as needed. • Attend scheduled team meetings, contribute to strategic discussions, and provide feedback The AMS is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of age, race, religion, colour, disability, sex, sexual orientation, or national origin.
