Role Responsibilities Internship Casual rate - currently £12.60 per hour plus holiday pay Under instruction from colleagues in the department and following appropriate training: Work alongside the communications team to contribute to the delivery of specific project(s) Develop experience and skills from working in a real-world work environment Contribute specific skills (i.e. technical, research, subject specific knowledge) to the work of the department Plan and prioritise own work, adhering to agreed deliverables and timeframes and referring any issues with workload or timeframes to colleagues. Producing social media content, initially aimed at prospective postgraduate students (UK and international) and potentially other constituencies as time goes on. Finding material relevant to the social media strategy. Recording videos. Taking photographs. Interviewing staff and students. Contributing to the development of the social media strategy and refinements for future years. Working with a range of colleagues to identify existing photographic and video material relevant to the campaign. Help to develop and use analytics to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of this and future campaigns. Introduction and rationale We are currently developing the departmental approach to using social media to reach different audiences. We are starting with a campaign to reach potential applicants for taught postgraduate programmes. Over time we aim to extend our reach in support of widening participation, research communication and alumni community building. We are seeking to recruit two interns to work between January and June with members of the academic and professional support team to generate and develop the material required. This will include, creating short videos, topic, taking appropriate photographs, interviewing students and staff and helping to establish analytics. We would like the intern to begin work as soon as possible although the work can be arranged flexibly around existing commitments. The two interns would ideally be based in Durham and would be working an average of 4 hrs per week each over 25 weeks. The hourly rate would be £12.60 per hour plus holiday pay. *We would encourage research postgraduates that are considering making an application to discuss the role and its implications for their progress and funding with their supervisors before applying for/accepting the position.
