The below role descriptor seeks to capture the main requirements of the role consistently, providing a summary of the key duties of the flexible role to help in setting expectations for applicants, flexible workers and line managers. They are not intended to cover all duties which may be required. Role Responsibilities · Research and Evaluation: o Conduct research on decolonisation initiatives within and beyond the Department. o Contribute to the evaluation of decolonisation efforts within the Department, including data collection and analysis. o Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations on decolonisation progress. · Student Engagement: o Co-plan and deliver workshops and events for students and staff on decolonisation topics. o Collaborate with other Department Interns to organize a University-wide student-led event showcasing decolonisation work across all Faculties. o Develop and maintain a calendar of decolonisation events and resources for students. o Contribute to the establishment of a wider student decolonising network. Key Responsibilities: · Design and develop data collection instruments (surveys, interview guides, focus group protocols) using generative AI tools where appropriate. · Recruit and screen participants for research studies. · Conduct interviews and facilitate focus group discussions using appropriate ethical guidelines. · Collect and manage research data, ensuring data quality and integrity Essential Skills: · Strong research, analytical, and critical thinking skills · Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills · Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team · Strong organizational and time-management skills · Enthusiasm for and commitment to social justice and decolonisation · Prior experience with decolonisation initiatives (e.g., through coursework, extracurricular activities) is highly desirable. Generative AI Proficiency: · Understanding of various generative AI models (e.g., large language models, image generators) and their capabilities. · Desire to leverage AI tools for data collection, analysis, and synthesis. · Familiarity with ethical considerations and potential biases in AI-generated content. Desirable Skills: · Experience with data analysis and visualization tools, · Familiarity with relevant academic literature on decolonisation. Commitment: · Approximately 6 hours per week for 12 weeks, with some flexibility and reduced hours during exam periods. · Total of 150 hours maximum across the 2025-2026 academic year.
