The incumbent works under the direction of the Director and Manager, Facilities & Asset Management, and is supervised by the Systems Operations Supervisor. The PBB and BHS Mechanical Technician will be responsible for monitoring the baggage handling system, managing the status, performing mechanical preventative maintenance, dispatching jams, and other problems to technicians, and coordinating the resolution of the baggage handling system. Responsible for servicing and maintenance of the passenger boarding bridges to deliver operationally safe services. The postholder will conduct investigations and complete work orders and reports. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Inspects all areas around and related to baggage and PBB systems for any safety issues. Issues are relayed to the Systems Operations Supervisor Perform operational duties as required to keep the baggage system and PBBs running at optimal performance. Monitor conveyor system status Monitors, troubleshoots, and repairs BHS system and network server Dispatch technicians to unjam the baggage system as required on service calls Determine/coordinate configuration changes with security operations to bypass off-service conveyor Troubleshoot, repair, and report service calls and technical issues internally Record data and works completed on work orders through the eMaint system, including closing completed work orders Update the equipment status on VORTEX after each shift Reset errors due to luggage, equipment, stakeholder, and passenger incidents Monitor the performance and condition of the systems/equipment, complete preventive maintenance inspections, and carry out any corrective repairs/upgrades Determines sequence and approach with little assistance Communicates regularly with clients and technicians over the phone and radio Adhere to all safety requirements Responsible to read, understand and comply with all company policies and applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) Perform any other duties needed to help drive our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our organization’s Values Qualifications and Experience: Possess an understanding of the BHS System, including the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System; Glidepath would be an asset 2+ years of work experience in a mechanical role, preferably in baggage handling systems Strong experience with Microsoft Office (Advanced Excel, Word) Strong knowledge of computers and equipment Must be detail-oriented and possess excellent time management and prioritization skills. Ability to multitask with frequent interruptions Team player with strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to solve problems under pressure Flexibility with time, ability to shift priorities quickly based on staff and system needs Proactive attitude toward process improvement Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Ability to read and understand technical manuals and drawings Use hand and power tools Operate light and medium-sized equipment (bucket & scissor lifts) Possess basic NCCER certification Troubleshoot and solve system problems under tight time deadlines Work collaboratively with maintenance mechanics, TSA, Information Technology personnel, and others Accomplish multiple tasks accurately, prioritize, and meet deadlines Physical Demands Ability to work extended hours greater than the normal shift, based on flight delays, emergencies, or when the airport is closed Move diligently and quickly to a location/s within the terminal or on Apron I to support security, operational, or emergency services This position has a vision and hearing requirement to identify the dangers associated with airport security operations and associated observations for reporting accurate reports of security events and occurrences on the baggage handling system.
