Established in London in 1814 Purdey are today world renowned for the finest craftsman made side by side and over and under shotguns and double barrel and bolt action rifles, each one fully bespoke to their client's specifications and needs. Purdey's exclusive range of men and women's shooting and country clothing and accessories reflects the same attention to detail. Main Purpose of Role: To train and acquire the skills necessary to produce, according to their specification, Guns and Rifles to the required high standard of James Purdey and Sons Ltd, under the supervision of; Craftsman, Senior Craftsman and Master Craftsman. The apprenticeship will teach you the necessary skills within a specific trade area, working in a safe and environmentally conscious manner to manufacture and build Guns and Rifles. As an Apprentice you will complete both hands-on and technical knowledge relevant to your selected trade area in a classroom setting. To start, your duties will include basic tasks and progress to more skilled-based tasks as you gain experience. Ultimately, upon completion you will be certified by The London Proof House. Reports to: Designated Team Leader Key Roles: Ensure a safe working environment, following all procedures and best practise, challenging unsafe acts, encouraging near miss reporting, whilst looking to continuously improve the safety of the working environment through the relevant channels. Fully participate in the culture of achieving the highest standards of quality in Gun and Rifle manufacture Fully participate in continuous improvement activities Assist and support the implementation of processes and procedures Development and safekeeping of all information to maintain the intellectual property and product excellence of all James Purdey and Sons Ltd products and services Qualifications: A good standard of secondary education or NVQ Good hand skills, manual dexterity, proven via a trade test Attributes, Experience & Competencies: A good work ethic, able to reliably achieve the required output at the workplace and in the classroom As an employee-in-training, apprentices should exhibit an enthusiasm to learn and display an eagerness to build their knowledge and a willingness to put in the effort to develop their skills Organised and positive with a desire and commitment to improving and developing products and processes Apprentices should follow all, rules, processes and procedures established by James Purdey and Sons Ltd. Apprentices are responsible for strictly adhering to these; rules, processes and procedures Good communication, teamwork and motivation skills Able to interact effectively with all levels within the company A capable problem solver who demonstrates resourcefulness. Hours of Work: Basic of 38 hours per week, with paid overtime when required. Hours worked within the company “Core Set Hours” rule. The majority of an apprentice’s work is done during business hours, however, there is often a need to do homework out of work hours.
