AI Product Manager – AI & Innovation Reports to: Head of AI and Innovation Location: London / Edinburgh / Stirling The Role: The M&G Life business has an ambitious strategy for growth that encompasses the creation of a broader range of investment solutions, enhances customer access to our products, and expands our distribution capability while delivering value through advice. The ability to achieve our strategic goals and build a future-ready business relies on a coherent, integrated digital, data & AI strategy bolstered by robust governance processes. The AI Product Manager is a leader within the M&G Life AI & Innovation team, responsible for driving the delivery and evolution of a portfolio of AI and Innovation initiatives. This role is pivotal in shaping the digital, data, and AI strategy for the Life business, ensuring alignment with broader organisational goals and delivering measurable business value through innovation. The AI Product Manager oversees multiple squads or pods, providing vision, direction, and leadership. Product Owners are aligned to individual squads/pods and report directly into the Product Manager, who is accountable for the overall success of the product portfolio. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Vision Define and communicate the product vision and strategy for AI and Innovation across the Life business. Set strategic priorities and ensure that squad/pod backlogs are aligned to the overall product vision and business objectives. Own the AI product lifecycle at a portfolio level, from concept and proof-of-value through MVP to scaled production, embedding success metrics such as adoption, engagement, and cost-to-serve. Portfolio & Delivery Oversight Lead and coach a multi-disciplinary delivery team, providing strategic direction and ensuring alignment across squads/pods. Oversee the delivery of multiple AI and Innovation initiatives, ensuring effective coordination and resource allocation. Hold accountability for delivery outcomes across squads/pods, with Product Owners responsible for operational delivery within their assigned squad/pod. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and high performance. Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across M&G Life Business and Technology and external partners. Communicate complex concepts clearly to non-technical audiences, ensuring buy-in and alignment. Champion user-centric design and feedback loops to inform product evolution and maximise business impact. Governance, Compliance & Ethics Ensure all AI initiatives adhere to robust governance processes, regulatory requirements, and ethical standards. Promote responsible AI practices and data stewardship throughout the product lifecycle. Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop Product Owners and other team members, fostering professional growth and capability building. Provide strategic guidance and support to Product Owners, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities. Key Skills, Competencies & Experience Action & impact-oriented, able to move at pace and drive results. Strategic thinking and vision-setting, with the ability to translate business objectives into actionable product strategies. Leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and coaching Product Owners. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and manage multiple priorities across a portfolio of initiatives. Strong problem-solving abilities, analytical skills, and data interpretation capability. Advanced product management, project, and organisational skills, including roadmap development and strategic backlog alignment. Ability to influence, inspire, and drive projects to deliver measurable business outcomes. Excellent communication skills, with a proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and senior leaders. Significant experience in AI and innovation delivery, ideally within Life or wider Financial Services. Proven track record in product management or product ownership roles, with experience overseeing multiple squads/pods. Strong background in Data Science, Machine Learning, and data platforms, with experience deploying various AI technologies in business contexts. Experienced in leading people and teams in AI initiatives, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Knowledge of product design and evolution into service design, with a user-centric approach. Deep understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies, service design, and digital transformation. Experience working in highly controlled and regulated environments, ensuring compliance and ethical standards.
