JOB TITLE Adjunct Faculty-Department of Integrative and Global Studies LOCATION Worcester DEPARTMENT NAME Integrative & Global Studies - JM DIVISION NAME Worcester Polytechnic Institute - WPI JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is seeking part-time adjunct faculty to teach evening classes for the Department of Integrative and Global Studies. These faculty positions are created to provide an available applicant pool for the program. Positions will be filled on an as needed basis. Start dates will vary by course and semester. JOB DESCRIPTION The Department of Integrative and Global Studies (DIGS) at WPI has a continuing need for adjunct professors to teach a unique course in social methods. In this class, students to work in teams to prepare a research proposal to guide work for external sponsors in the following term. Students must learn to function in teams to set goals, complete background research, understand appropriate research methods, think critically, and write and present effectively. Experience in social research and in teaching social research methods is highly desirable. A Ph.D. in a relevant social science discipline is also desirable, but not required. The Global Experience Office (GEO) manages WPI’s Global Perspective Program through which most of WPI’s juniors complete interdisciplinary projects off campus each year. In this project, the Interactive Qualifying Project, student teams work with external sponsors on a problem addressing some aspect of science, technology and human needs, broadly defined. Our project preparation course is offered only in the evenings, Mondays & Thursdays, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. for seven weeks each. Instructors must be available at other times for office hours and consultation with students.
