Role Overview We are seeking an Accounting Director with strong expertise in the vacation rentals and hospitality sector to lead financial operations for our clients in this space. This individual will oversee accounting, reporting, compliance, and cash management while serving as a strategic finance partner to property owners and operators. The role requires deep knowledge of revenue recognition, operating expenses, and unit-level profitability in short-term rental businesses. Key Responsibilities Oversee day-to-day accounting functions for multiple vacation rental entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Lead the month-end close process, including revenue recognition, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Prepare and analyze property-level P&Ls, occupancy trends, and cost allocations, providing insights to improve margins. Manage cash flow forecasting, vendor payments, and owner distributions. Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity. Partner with property managers and operations teams to track key performance indicators (RevPAR, ADR, occupancy, net operating income). Supervise and mentor a team of accountants/bookkeepers, providing guidance and training on industry-specific accounting practices. Support tax planning and compliance in coordination with external tax advisors. Drive continuous process improvement, including automation, system optimization, and scalability for a multi-property environment. Provide financial leadership in budgeting, forecasting, and scenario modeling for owners and investors. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred. 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Strong background in hospitality or vacation rental accounting (property management, STRs, or hotel accounting). Proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar) and property management software (Hostaway, Guesty, Streamline, or similar). Excellent financial analysis, reporting, and modeling skills. Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-client environment.
