Having a thorough understanding of seniors, newcomers, and disability issues, the Accessible Transit Coordinator will support and encourage persons that experience barriers using public transit. We're looking for an Accessible Transit Coordinator to join our team at Edmonton Transit Service. This is a unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of people with disabilities, seniors, newcomers, and other community members by providing the support and training they need to achieve independent mobility with public transit. In this role, you'll be the primary contact for travel training, working with a variety of internal and external partners to enhance our services and make our transit system more accessible for everyone. What will you do? Develop and deliver travel training programs for seniors, newcomers, and persons with disabilities, enhancing transit accessibility across conventional bus, community bus, LRT, and On Demand transit systems Respond to inquiries from other City Departments, riders, and various partners regarding transit accessibility issues Provide information and updates for ETS website and internal/external publications and rider tools Provide input on ETS accessibility policies and processes Review the design of transit facilities and vehicles from an accessibility perspective Research and develop new and improved existing accessibility training programs and materials Perform industry scans to identify and review industry trends and standards Identify and implement engagement and learning opportunities for community, industry or other partners, and developing and maintaining community partnerships Support ETS Rider Engagement outreach activations where needed University Degree in Recreation Administration or a related undergraduate degree A minimum of five years' experience in the field of community recreation, including demonstrated competency in program development, organization development, and information/referral provision Experience working with diverse groups of people, including those with physical, cognitive, and mental health conditions, and people for whom English is not a primary language Assets: Experience working with any of the following communities in a programming, life skills support, or instructional capacity: people with disabilities, seniors, newcomers, or marginalized communities First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, or GBA+ training Personal experience using public transit is considered very beneficial Familiarity with the City of Edmonton's public transit system, including its services, information tools, and accessibility features Skills required for success: Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to comfortably speak in various contexts, from formal to informal Excellent instructional skills and the ability to adapt training approaches and communication methods based on diverse client needs Ability to work collaboratively with both internal and external organizations, maintaining a solution-oriented mindset Familiarity with Universal Design, GBA+ analysis, and accessible communications formats Demonstrated ability to positively interact with and provide instructional support to people of varying ages and abilities Ability to take a 'whole person' approach, helping people develop confidence and independence Familiarity with the challenges faced by individuals with physical, cognitive, and mental health disabilities, as well as seniors, newcomers, and other marginalized groups Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies (https://bit.ly/4brRrXm) Embracing a culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion Conditions of Employment: Must be able to perform accompanied instructional trips, which may require navigating outside in the community and in various locations throughout the city May be exposed to extreme temperatures, air quality or precipitation during in-person travel training.
