This position is responsible for fostering a culturally respectful and accountable work environment, aligned with the values and expectations of the MNO. As a supervisor, the incumbent ensures the effective daily operation of the Thunder Bay Transitional Housing Program by planning, organizing, and monitoring service delivery, ensuring high-quality care and support to program participants. They act as a cultural role model, promoting Métis values and practices, and take an active role in hiring, training, and evaluating staff to ensure alignment with organizational culture and program goals. The supervisor provides direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to staff, addressing complex client and operational needs, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation and policies. They are also responsible for maintaining accurate records, implementing performance management strategies, supporting conflict resolution, and driving continuous improvement in program efficiency and effectiveness. This role requires strong leadership, cultural competency, interpersonal skills, and a commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of all individuals served by the program. The supervisor, in collaboration with the manager, will rotate being an on-call support for the Transitional House. What you will be doing: Act as a role model for the behaviour and culture expected from the team Explain / screen for behaviour and culture when hiring new employees Develop work plans, key deliverables, timelines, quality measures, and action plans with clearly identified priorities Provide direct supervision to Thunder Bay Transitional Housing Program team Provide expertise in response to complex client or program needs and/or to support and advise reports Provide training on work culture, work expectations, job duties and organizational policies and procedures or arrange for proper training to be provided Organize, plan, and supervise day-to-day work for case coordination or participants living in the Thunder Bay Transitional Housing Program. Provide ongoing coaching to support effective job performance and conduct constructive and timely performance evaluations at least once per year Implement coaching and corrective performance plans where required Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with policy Keep employees informed about rules, regulations, policies, and objectives Ensure proper maintenance, filing, and storage of records in case of audits or reviews Collaborate with employees to identify ways to improve program or Branch efficiency and effectiveness and implement viable ideas Resolve conflicts that arise among employees and/or other employees Build strong and effective rapport with participants Provide appropriate oversight as required by relevant legislation including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIB), Ontario Human Rights Code, AODA, etc Light cleaning duties Promotes the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with others (employees, citizens, council, volunteers, advocates, etc.) Reports all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within the MNO’s policies and procedures and provincial legislation. Performs other job/branch-related duties as required. Qualifications: 1 to 3 years of experience in a direct homeless prevention and intervention service provision College Diploma (3 year) in social work, social services, or human needs services. Access to a reliable vehicle, driver’s licence, $2,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record. Experience in providing case management services to vulnerable, complex, and high-needs populations. Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications. Demonstrated experience dealing with personal and confidential information and issues in a mature, tactful and diplomatic manner Demonstrated experience in quickly acquiring and expanding knowledge and being flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment Familiarity with issues relating to chronic and episodic homelessness Situational awareness A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal Superior organization skills and time/priority-management managing others including the design and implementation of project work plans Elevated levels of problem-solving and analytical skills Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and work effectively with others in a supervisory capacity Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader Indigenous policy and research, key challenges, and programs Completion of a leadership development program or course Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning Experience in program development and the generation of funding proposals Experience in the generation of comprehensive reports in relation to funding directives Experience in recruitment, training, discipline, and termination Experience in conflict resolution AODA Statement The Métis Nation of Ontario commits to providing accommodation as required by the Ontario Human Rights Act, unless to do so would cause undue hardship.
