About the Role TEKsystems is seeking a Residential Mortgage Underwriter to support a leading Canadian financial institution during a period of strategic growth and increased lending activity. As an Analyst, Underwriting, you will be responsible for reviewing and approving residential mortgage and real estate applications, ensuring sound lending decisions and regulatory compliance. You’ll work closely with brokers, funding teams, and internal partners to assess risk and make informed credit decisions. Key Responsibilities Underwriting & Decision-Making: Approve, decline, or recommend mortgage applications within established guidelines and authorized lending limits (up to $1.5M), including exceptions where appropriate. Risk Assessment: Evaluate income, down payment, property details, and other documentation to assess creditworthiness and mitigate risk. Collaboration: Communicate professionally with brokers, appraisers, insurers, and internal teams to ensure smooth processing and resolution of applications. Productivity: Meet daily targets of reviewing 5 new files and managing 20–30 deals per week. Technology & Innovation: Use Microsoft Office Suite and explore AI tools to improve efficiency and support continuous learning and development. Top Skills & Experience 2–4 years of retail mortgage underwriting experience (residential focus) Strong understanding of real estate secured lending (RESL) and exception handling Experience reviewing mortgage documentation (income, down payment, offers, etc.) Technologically savvy with a growth mindset Nice to Have Broker or underwriting course certification Familiarity with Canadian mortgage regulations and compliance standards Soft Skills Excellent written and verbal communication Strong attention to detail and negotiation skills Ability to work independently and manage high volumes Adaptability and eagerness to learn Why This Role?
